Wegmans recalls ground beef

Wegmans has recalled ground beef products after being notified by its supplier, Cargill Meat Solutions Corp., that they may have supplied beef contaminated with E. coli.
According to a news release from Wegmans, the recall involves products with "use-or-freeze-by" dates of Oct. 10 through Oct. 29.

Wegmans customers who purchased, but have not yet consumed, these products should return them to Wegmans for a full refund. Consumers who have consumed the product and feel they are experiencing symptoms should contact their physician. The onset of symptoms is generally within three to eight days of consumption, and symptoms typically include diarrhea, fever, severe abdominal pain, and in severe cases, bloody diarrhea. Children, the elderly and those

with compromised immune systems are at the greatest risk.

The Wegmans products being recalled:

- 80 percent, 90 percent and 95 percent Lean Fresh Ground Beef, all packages sizes. Also includes product sold from the service meat case.

- 80 percent and 90 percent Lean Fresh Ground Beef Patties in the 4-patty pack only

- All Ground Beef, Pork and Veal blends, including Century Farm brand

- 85 percent and 91 percent Food You Feel Good About Fresh Ground Beef sold in the service meat case

- Ready-to-Cook items made with Fresh Ground Beef, both packaged and in the service meat case. These include: Ready-to-Cook Burgers (bacon and cheddar, blue cheese, seasoned, roasted pepper and feta); Ready-to-Cook Meatloaf (regular and bacon cheddar); Ready-to-Cook Meatballs; Stuffed Peppers

" I'm not a consumer advocate (nor do I play one on TV) but something smells rotten in Denmark (or shall we say, Auburn). If you haven't consumed the "meat", bring it back to Wegmans for a full refund. However, if you have already consumed it and you're really, really sick, consult a physician. Did I miss something or did they fail to tell us where to get reimbursed for the $60.00 office visit? "
