November 6, Election Day, is less than two weeks away.

For me it's sort of a frightening thought because there's so much left to do in a short period of time.

For newspapers, election season is unquestionably the busiest time of year. Candidates are constantly coming to and going from the building. Phones ring throughout the day from campaigns trying to pitch stories or share tips. Large batches of letters to the editor arrive every day. The advertisement department is also selling plenty of political ads these days.

So with all of these things swirling in my head, I thought I'd throw out a few election-related reminders for readers:

€ The letters to the editor deadline for submissions pertaining to the election is this coming Tuesday, Oct. 30. We have this deadline policy in place in order to ensure that we can run all the properly submitted letters in the space we have available prior to the election.

The deadline means the letter needs to be in our hands by the end of the day Tuesday, so if you finish one Monday night, you should probably e-mail it to citizenletters@lee.net or drop it off in person to our office at 25 Dill St. in Auburn.

Also, please adhere to the 300 word rule, and remember that only one letter per writer can be published in a seven-day span. At this point, if you'd like to write in support of multiple candidate, you should do that in one letter.

€ I've always felt a great way to get to know candidates in races and to see the differences is with a debate. The televised forums for the county and city races so far this year have again reinforced that belief.

If you didn't catch the debates on TV or if you'd like to see one again, be sure to check out our Web site. The Election 2007 button near top of the homepage at www.auburnpub.com is the place to go to view these forums.

The last of the TV debates is coming up this Tuesday, with the three city of Auburn mayoral candidates facing off.

There's also a non-televised forum in which all of the city and county candidates will appear Monday night at the Holiday Inn. Members of the audience will be able to submit questions for that event, which runs from 6 to 9 p.m.

€ The editorial board completed the last of 20 interviews with candidates this week, and we're now trying to decide on our endorsement choices. We'll be unveiling those picks in the Sunday, Nov. 4 edition.
