AUBURN - A year-long series of events honoring the 100th anniversary of St. Francis of Assisi Church will culminate with a dinner dance the organizers promise will be “a truly memorable evening” in Auburn.
The Gala Reunion Dinner Dance begins at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Holiday Inn. More than 200 tickets have been sold for the event, and tickets are still available.

“We're asking for past and present parishioners, former members of St. Francis School. We're hoping more people will be able to attend,” said Joe Camardo, father of co-chair John Camardo, who is organizing the event along with fellow co-chair Bob Bruno and many other volunteers.

Tickets can be purchased at the following locations in Auburn - Paul's Barber Shop, Tesoro Apparel, Sam's Shoe Store, Lewis' Restaurant, Speno Music, and at the St. Francis' Rectory Office at 185 Clark St.

Tickets are $25 for the sit-down dinner, which includes stuffed chicken breast and baked scrod. The meal ends with a spumoni ice cream plate, complimented by homemade cookies - including many traditional Italian varieties - that have been prepared over the past week by church members.

Many former pastors at St. Francis will be in attendance, along with a number of local politicians and other dignitaries. There is no keynote speaker, but several of the people at the head table may make some brief remarks.

The Sons of Frank, who performed at the Christopher Columbus dinner nearly a month ago, are returning to entertain. The band features the sons of the late accordion player Frank Mucedola. Also performing will be Rocco and Paolo, featuring singer and mandolin player Paulo Saltarello, who has played for many years at Rosalie's Cucina in Skaneateles.

A pair of large-screen televisions will be set up to show a slide show of pictures from the church's history, including many photographs of the Italian immigrants who had a big impact on the parish.

There will also be tables full of memorabilia, including a number of scrapbooks.

“There will be a lot of tradition. It's a chance to reminisce, to get together and have a few laughs,” Camardo said.
