STERLING - The future of the county's 2,500-acre Sterling Project Area was an issue when incumbent Republican Supervisor Nadia Niniowsky defeated Democratic challenger Daniel Sanders in 1995, and remains one today. A recent decision by Cayuga County's Sterling Site Commission to put part of the land on the market as a single parcel with a $2.5 million price tag has again divided the town. Sanders, a critic of zoning, opposes Niniowsky's support of the Sterling Commission's one-parcel sale plan.

AUBURN - The 321 animals that were seized from the Gilfus family farm last December were permanently forfeited to their current caregivers Friday morning. All the animals are now the property of either The Finger Lakes Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or the Humane Society of Rochester and Monroe County.
