The wineries of the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail wish all you goblins and ghouls a very happy and safe Halloween. Stop in for a taste of your favorite wine, some mulled cider or a taste of Bellwether's Hard Cider for grown-ups.
This coming weekend celebrate with a bit of the bubbly at Swedish Hill Winery, which is hosting its 21st annual Champagne & Dessert Wine Festival from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 3 and 4. Several of its fine champagnes, dessert wines and port will be offered with a complimentary selection of delicious desserts. The event is free. Swedish Hill Winery is located at 4565 Route 414, Romulus; eight miles south of Seneca Falls, it is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
On Sunday, Nov. 11, enjoy a Bon Vivant Celebration at Hosmer Winery from noon to 4 p.m. Bon Vivant means someone who lives luxuriously, enjoying the luxuries in life, especially good food and wine. Join the Hosmer staff for a toast to the good life with a leisurely pairing of hand-crafted wines with gourmet food in good company. The wine and food featured this year is its sparkling wine/champagne and Raspberry Royale accompanied with delectable sweets. The $5 per person fee also includes a keepsake. This event is limited. Other events include Thirsty Owl Wine Company's annual Barrel Tasting Polka Party held Nov. 10. Tank and barrel tastings, unique food and a live Polka band will help everyone “Roll out the Barrel.”
Also Nov. 10, Sheldrake Point Winery & Simply Red Bistro will serve Autumn Winemaker's Dinner. Chef Samantha Izzo celebrates the region's harvest bounty with five courses paired with five estate wines. To reserve a spot, call (866) 743-5372. The cost is $65 per person. A tour will be held at 5:45 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m.
Throughout the rest of next month Six Mile Creek Vineyard will design basket creations. Make your own customized basket. Basket and trimmings are free with your purchase of gift items.
On the first weekend of December attend the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail's 14th annual Holiday Shopping Spree held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2. Visitors will receive collectable snowflake ornaments, a grapevine wreath and a souvenir wine glass. Knapp Winery & Vineyard Restaurant will serve its Reindeer Munch, a pleasant treat of chocolate, cranberries and peppermint candies. Sheldrake Point Winery & Simply Red Bistro is serving “A Red Kuri Pumpkin Chili” with chili lime toasted pumpkin seeds and creme fraiche drizzle, and at Montezuma Winery delight in chocolate wine truffles. Participants are eligible for grand prizes of an overnight stay at the Holiday Inn or two gift certificates for brunch at the Ramada Inn in Ithaca.
