Water customers will have to conserve water today and Thursday because of upgrades to the Auburn water treatment plant.
This requests goes to city residents as well as the residents in Throop, Brutus, Montezuma, Sennett, Aurelius water district 1 and 2, Springport water district 2, Fleming water district 6, Weedsport, Port Byron, and Cayuga County Water and Sewer Authority customers.
A power generator will be installed over the two days, and the filters will not operate.
Only a portion of the plant will operate, so capacity will be reduced heavily.
The generator will operate the water treatment plant during any power failures.
Work is expected to be completed by the end of Thursday and water storage tank levels will be back to normal by Friday. Officials ask people to reduce their consumption and wait to do activities that would take a lot of water.
