On the idea wanting correction officers monitoring the halls in the schools, it makes correction officers sound like glorified babystitters and my husband and I have worked in corrections and it is far from doing a job monitoring a school.
How come New York state's politicians have no common sense? The only laws they have passed in the last 15 years are ones that have failed terribly in other states.

Give me a break and read your articles more closely. A lot of people and children who have been attacked, mauled and killed by pit bulls have been by their own family pets.

So sad that the former Schine theater project has simply stagnated due to the incompetent agencies that have been involved. We need someone to jump-start this project for the benefit of all in Auburn.

Auburn, wake up! Politically, Auburn has been the laughing stock of the state because of brawls and constant “negative” undertones in our city government meetings.

To the three members of Cato board: You know who you are, why the letter to both town of Meridian and Cato voters, worried about elections? Your alternatives for medical and fire assistance from distant departments, are a poor excuse for your ridiculous decision for splitting up the Cato/Meridian Fire Departments.

" To one cry for help- Last years' football team made it into the playoffs only as a result of another teams' mistake. They were the next in line by default. Period. From that point forward, they did earn the title. But again, the whole thing would not have happened had it not resulted from another teams' error. Second place in the New York State Band Competition was based only on effort and performance and nothing else. Big difference, don't you think? Effort, hard work and performance of every one of those 120+ members, certainly outshine those chosen few in my book any day. "

" I really donnot think anybody was making a slam against the corrections officers, what the school board should do is hire the retired corrections officers at the same rate that the county hires the court officers (with out benifits) to protect the court rooms and the county office building. These officers are retired state police, sheriff deputys and city police and correction officers. This would also free up the city police officers that are in the school system now. It would put the four officers back on the road patroling Orchard and the James street area. "

" cm read the study carefully. Utah does not have a 0% drop out rate. According to the study, 0% of the schools in Utah were classified as "drop out factories" meaning that there were no schools in Utah that had over a 40% drop out rate. Students still drop out, but not at a very high percentage. This good for Utah, but it is not nearly as good as you are claiming. "

" School hall moniters are generally teachers aides. Knock yourself out if you want to make $7.50 an hour. "

" interesting news: Utah Dropout Factories 0 out of 100 schools (0 percent) Do you think religion has some kind of play in this 0% high school drop out rate???? "

" Just attended the forum hosted by NAACP. I'd say vote Fricano, Mills, Mahunik, Didio, Kotzer and Budelmann. Each spoke very intelligently and passionately. Each cares deeply for this county and will lead it in the right direction in the future. Bipartisan...vote the man not the party! "

" I don't see any problem in backing the band instead of the jockstrap boys. Someone might think Auburn has some culture by supporting the arts as well as sports. "

brew1234 wrote on Oct 29, 2007 9:10 PM:

" That's a great idea for the downtown area Pentangeloony. Take out the key piece of property in the downtown for a supermarket. Maybe we can find another block of valuable downtown property and tear it down for a Target. Just tear down the entire downtown and call it the Auburn Mid Town mall. Then when the city has a parade you can just circle around a mall parking lot since there will be no Genesee Street just a big parking lot. "

" don't count your chickens since the football season is not over with--Auburns team got into the finals on a fluke as it was ! What will you come back and say when they dont hold a state title this year?? GO BAND! "

" The arts is always the first on the chopping block with the uncultured ignorant types. ya sure, Pentangelli, lets tear down MORE of our past - maybe we could set up tents and trade made in China items in the vast parking lot that was once proud Auburn! "

" Another point to the Schines project. If this project is not completed the grant money will have to be returned. Are the taxpayers ready to accept that burden? "

" politicians ( mud slinging, name calling school yard bullies), grant money (robbing peter to pay paul syndrome), glorified babysitters (give parents back the right to have a firm hand on thier children,as long as they do not leave a mark and get them under control). is there anything else in the newspaper besides this??? "

" Here's one for everyone. How late can people calling for those campaigning for election call people's homes? I received a call from a candidate for District Attorney at my home around 10 pm last night. It wasn't Mike Bass either. So there's a time limit for Bill collectors to call, well what about those campaigning for Election. If there isn't as I was told by the Board of Elections. Well I think there should be. This is totally unnecessay. By the way the Verizon Phone Book states that any calla from Bill Collectors or Solisitors is illegal according to FCC rules after 8 pm. "

" Will you people be patient with the Schine Theater project. It is moving slowly because it is being done in increments as they get grant money. They know that the city and county budgets can not pay for the work. Also the work is inside and not visible to the public. Be patient it is a worthy project and with be a great asset to Auburn. If you want it done faster then donate a few grand. "
