Douglas slows down to play role as family man
He's played everything from a Wall Street vulture to the president, but these days Michael Douglas is focusing on his favorite role -- father and husband.
“I've learned to kick back and be a family man,” he says. “Since I married Catherine (Zeta-Jones), we've been raising a new family. I'm enjoying it immensely. And my priorities have changed enormously.”
Since getting married in 2000, the two have had a son and daughter.
The award made him “feel like I need to check with my doctor and see if everything's OK,” the 63-year-old Academy Award winner joked in an interview Saturday with the Savannah Morning-News.
“I'm slowing down, but I'm not ready to call it quits yet,” he said.
Ky. church looks to send support and love to Spears
The congregation of Southland Christian Church is being asked to send letters of love and support to troubled pop star Britney Spears, described by the pastor as having made “devastating life choices.”
“Take a few minutes and write a note to Britney Spears,” pastor John Weece said in a sermon and in a blog on the church Web site. “No preaching. No criticizing. Just love. As a church, let's love Britney the way Jesus loves her.”
Weece said the idea came as he watched repeated reports of Spears' reported problems with drugs and alcohol and the loss of custody of her children.
“If she were your next-door neighbor in the same situation without the money and success, wouldn't you care about her problems? Wouldn't you pray for her and offer her support and encouragement?” he asked members of the church.
Cindy Willison, the church's director of communications, was still collecting the letters on Friday and looking for the best way to get them directly to Spears.
“This is an opportunity for us to reach out to someone who probably doesn't have a lot of people in her life that care for her as a person,” Willison said.
Lorrie Morgan files for divorce from Kershaw
Lorrie Morgan has filed for divorce from fellow country singer Sammy Kershaw, court records show.
Morgan cites irreconcilable differences in the Tuesday filings and asks the court to enforce a prenuptial agreement. The two have been married for six years and they separated two months ago.
Kershaw recently ran unsuccessfully for lieutenant governor of Louisiana.
Morgan has a home in Gallatin, about 25 miles northeast of Nashville, and filed for divorce in Sumner County Chancery Court there. Kershaw is Morgan's fifth husband while Morgan is Kershaw's fourth wife.
