SENNETT - An Auburn teenager was killed Sunday afternoon as the result of a collision in Sennett between a small car and a bus.
According to the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office, a Centro bus was driving east on state Route 20 when it struck a 2000 Ford Escort.
Sarah E. Smith, 16, of Auburn, was a passenger in the Escort and was transported after the accident to Auburn Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Investigators said the Escort, which was driven by Kevin J. Bouley, 16, pulled into the path of the bus from Town Hall Road.
The Cayuga County 911 center received the emergency call at approximately 2:14 p.m.
Bouley and a second passenger in the Escort, Ashly M. Januszka, 16, were transported to University Hospital in Syracuse and are being treated for non-threatening injuries, according to sheriff's office officials.
The driver of the bus, Dawn M. French, 51, was transported to Auburn Memorial Hospital for minor injuries. The bus was carrying nine passengers at the time of the incident, none of whom were transported from the scene with any injuries, sheriff's officials said.
The sheriff's office is still investigating the cause of the accident.
Members of the New York State Police, Sennett Fire Department, Owasco Fire Department, Saves Ambulance, Rural Metro Ambulance, TLC Ambulance and Skaneateles Fire Department assisted at the scene, according to the sheriff's office.
