Cayuga/Seneca Community Action Agency, Inc. is excited to announce the receipt of a grant for $461,301 from the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, to administer the Healthy Families New York (HFNY) program in Cayuga and Seneca counties. Healthy Families New York is an initiative of the New York State Office of Children and Family Services in partnership with Prevent Child Abuse New York (PCANY) and the Center for Human Services Research (CHSR) at SUNY Albany. Healthy Families New York follows the Healthy Families America model of home visitation, a national initiative of Prevent Child Abuse America. Healthy Families is a collaboration of state, local, private and public funding.
The addition of this program is an example of the Agency's commitment to achieving the goals set forth in the Agency's Strategic Plan. It is part of the Strategic Plan's priorities of Customer Advocacy and Support, Fiscal Advancement, and New Fiscal Opportunities. Healthy Families provides an opportunity to expand our services to meet ever-growing needs of pregnant, parenting and at-risk families residing in both Cayuga and Seneca counties.
The Healthy Families program is part of Healthy Families New York and is a voluntary home visiting approach for new parents. It aims to educate the families in child development, health and positive parenting to enable the children to get a healthy start.
The Healthy Families program offers home-based services to expectant families and new parents, beginning in the prenatal stage or shortly after the birth of the child. Participants are screened to identify risk factors and stressors that the family may face. Families who participate in the program are offered long-term in-home supportive services until the child is in school or Head Start.
The services are easily accessible to isolated at-risk families and are respectful of cultural and community diversity.
The Cayuga/Seneca Community Action Agency, Inc. is currently interviewing supportive and skilled program staff; including a program manager, responsible for the administration of the program, funding, quality assurance, evaluation and supervision of the staff, a Family Support Worker (FSW), a Family Assessment Worker (FAW), and a Data Manager.
The Healthy Families program will serve 135 families within the first year throughout both Cayuga and Seneca counties.
To maximize program outcomes, the agency will work in collaboration with over 40 community partners including the Cayuga County Department of Health and Human Services, the Seneca County Department of Social Services, and the Seneca County Department of Health. It is only with the assistance of the community, that the agency is capable of providing such services to those in need.
The addition of Healthy Families is consistent with the Agency's mission to #“assist people to achieve and sustain self-sufficiency and self-dignity.#”
The Cayuga/Seneca Community Action Agency, Inc. would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who assisted in and supported us in the realization of this new, dynamic program. The Agency would like to extend a very special thanks to Tracy Murphy, executive director of Options for Independence for pulling this grant together.
