Led by second team IAC all-star Evan Bassett (14th place, 19:09), the Southern Spring boys cross country team placed fourth at the IAC Championships on Saturday.
Alex Schmitt took 23rd (19:29), Corey Field followed at 24th (19:30), Matt Cuff came in 34th (20:04), Marshall Greer placed 39th (20:25), J.D Balloni finished 41st (20:40), and Zach Casper took 52nd (21:07).
As for Moravia, Jason Phillips came in third (18:04) earning him first team all-IAC honors.
“Third place was Jason's goal heading into the race.” Moravia coach Jan Hunsinger said. “Jason has a legitimate shot at being the Section IV Class D champion.”
Joe Grobelny took 18th (19:19), and Adam Wiethuechter finished in 71st (22:54) for the Blue Devils.
Next for Southern Springs and Moravia is the Section IV Championships on Thursday.

Alicia McLaughlin led the way for the Blue Devils as she placed 13th (23:20) and earned herself the second team all-IAC honors. Kayla Slater took 23rd (24:21), Jessica Higgins finished 27th (25:04), Claire Hunsinger placed in 32nd (25:34), and Helen Hunsinger came in 49th (29:00).
For Southern Springs, Michelle Wilmot came in 14th (23:26) and earned her second team all-IAC honors. Meg Rindfleisch came in 26th (25:02), Stacy Rindfleisch placed 43rd (26:56), Casey Emmett came in 47th (28:01), and Sarah Norton took 53rd (31:30).

Dillon Langtry passed for two scores on his 5-for-5 night with 68 yards as the Blue Devils football team closed the season out with a victory. Evy Thompson rushed for 21 carries, 186 yards and a score.
“Thompson was very successful with the help of his four senior blocking linemen.” Moravia head coach John Crossgrove said.
The four linemen are Anthony Burgin the tight end, JJ Weeks the center, Eric Young the guard, and Ryan Rowe the tackle. Taylor Mackey led the team with four receptions for 46 yards. Joe Corson led the defense with 11 tackles.

Erin Weber, Sarah Kilcer, Carly Pearson, and Stephanie Morse took third in the 200 medley relay (2:07.02).
In the 200 freestyle, Bekah Ortquist took fifth (2:14.22) and Pearson placed eighth (2:19.64).
In the 200 IM, Kathryn Carter finished in 10th (2:47.34). Pearson took third in the 100 butterfly (1:09.55) and Amber Heslop placed eighth (1:18.63).
Ortquist came in third in the 100 freestyle (1:00.76) and right behind her came Morse in fourth (1:00.78). Caitlin Rejman placed 11th also in the event (1:05.39).
Devon Balk took ninth in the 500 freestyle (6:40.06) and Elizabeth Tyrrell came in 11th (6:45.59).
In the 200 freestyle relay, Southern Springs placed fourth and was led by Rejman, Carter, Ortquist, and Rose Mendel (1:58.82). In the backstroke, Weber took fourth (1:12.84) and Rejman came in 10th (1:17.85).
In the breaststroke, Carter took sixth (1:22.12) and Kilcer finished seventh (1:22.62).
In the 400 freestyle relay, Southern Springs finished a in season-best 4:05.46 led by Rejman, Pearson, Ortquist, and Morse. The relay was just two seconds behind the winners.
Carly Pearson and Bekah Ortquist were named IAC all-stars.
Southern Springs will participate at Section IV preliminaries Wednesday.
