‘Lost' actor apologizes for drunk driving arrest
HONOLULU - Daniel Dae Kim, one of the stars on ABC's “Lost,” has apologized for his arrest on suspicion of drunken driving.

Kim said he was deeply ashamed and embarrassed and will fully cooperate with police, in a statement issued Friday by his publicist, Cindy Guagenti.

“It saddens me to know that I jeopardized the welfare of the kind people of Hawaii, a community that I love and call my home,” the statement said. Honolulu Police arrested Kim early Thursday after an officer spotted him driving erratically at about 2:30 a.m. He was booked at the downtown police station and released after posting bail.

He had a blood-alcohol level of 0.168, twice the legal limit.

Kim, 39, is set to appear in Oahu District Court on Nov. 23.

“To those I have disappointed I can only ask that you accept my heartfelt apologies. I am truly, truly sorry,” Kim said.

Pavarotti's widow upset by published rumors

ROME - Luciano Pavarotti's widow denounced the “unseemly” gossip swirling in the Italian media alleging financial and family problems, saying Saturday she felt compelled to set the record straight for the sake of their young daughter.

Nicoletta Mantovani appeared on RAI state television, granting her first interview since the Sept. 6 death of the great Italian tenor.

She set out to publicly defend herself and Pavarotti against a series of Italian media reports alleging that Pavarotti had left her $26 million in debt, that she was fighting with his daughters from his first marriage over his will and that their marriage had been on the rocks before he died.

She denied Pavarotti had left her in debt, or that she was squabbling with his three adult daughters over the terms of his will.

Non-Rembrandt work still fetches millions

LONDON - A museum in the Netherlands said the portrait was not by Rembrandt, and the provincial auction house in England was only advertising it as a work by one of his followers -- valued at $3,078.

But when 15 minutes of bidding on the painting ended Friday, it had sold for $4.5 million.

“I was shocked,” said Philip Allwood, who had conducted the auction in the town of Cirencester, west of London.

“It tells you about the art market today. People are very prepared to pay big money for the right pieces, or what they feel are the right pieces,” the auctioneer said in a telephone interview Saturday.

“The Young Rembrandt as Democrates the Laughing Philosopher,” a 9.5-by-6.5 inch portrait of a young man, had hung in a local home for years.
