Center to offer cat trapping training
The Animal Resource Center will present a free feral cat volunteer training meeting. Volunteers are needed to learn how to safely trap and transport feral cats as part of a trap, neuter and release (TNR) program. The socialization and fostering of feral kittens will also be part of the training. Volunteers interested in public outreach are needed and encouraged to attend as well. Fire dept. to host benefit for family
A benefit for the Burnett family will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. today, at the Union Springs Fire Department Hall, located on Route 90 in Union Springs.
Todd and Dawn Burnett and their three children, lost their Springport home to a fire on Sept. 19.
The event includes a pasta dinner, raffles, door prizes, auction and music provided by DJ Doug Derleth and singer Heather Lardeo. Auction items include a New York Jets autographed football, overnight stay packages, limited edition prints from Ducks Unlimited and Bass Pro Shops, a Cavanaugh Studio portrait sitting, a guitar and more.

New exhibit to open for local artists
The Skaneateles Artisans will hold an artist opening from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at 11 Fennell St., Skaneateles.
This new exhibit will feature artists Sandra Philips (decorative paintings and portraits) and Lorraine Savidge (intricate thread paintings). Eclectic and original guitar music will be provided by JC and Betty Lee.

Homeless shelter needs volunteers
Chapel House, Auburn's newly forming homeless shelter, needs the support of the entire community to open by winter. The greatest need is for night workers in any increment of time. Training will be provided. The only requirement is a caring heart.

Operation Christmas Child begins
Operation Christmas Child volunteers are collecting simple shoe box gifts which will be sorted and sent using whatever means necessary to reach suffering children around the world.
Community members may join the effort by filling shoe boxes with school supplies, toys, necessity items, candy and a letter of encouragement. Step-by-step shoe box packing instructions are available at www.samaritanspurse.org. National collection week is Nov. 12 through 19. The local collection site is Auburn Church of the Nazarene, 3360 E. Genesee St. Road, Auburn. Call the church to learn more at 253-9300.
