Cuff heads in winner for Union Springs

The Union Springs girls soccer team is advancing to the Section IV, Class C semifinals at 3 p.m., Tuesday after a 1-0 victory over No. 6 Unadilla Valley on Friday.
The third-ranked Wolves' lone goal came by Amanda Cuff from a pass by Alyssa Dean.

Cuff then headed the ball into the goal.

The defense was led by Danielle Lyndaker, Annie O'Hara, and Monica Sacco.

Deven Gray had seven saves in the net, as Unadilla Valley had 10 shots on goal, compared to Union Springs' 18.

Union Springs awaits the winner between Marathon and Oxford to see who they will play in the next round.

FOOTBALL

Cato-Meridian 21, Jordan-Elbridge 14

Donny Rodriguez rushed in two scores to lead the Blue Devils. Ethan Holt also contributed in guiding Cato-Meridian by rushing in a score and also scoring a two-point conversion.

Mitch Merrill scored a touchdown for the Eagles and Zach Frost connected to Richard Benesch for a 74-yard pass early in the game. However Cato-Meridian was able to hold on after the Eagles second score and seal the victory.
