Miss England told to pack on a few pounds
NEW YORK - A British beauty queen says she was told to pack on pounds for the upcoming Miss World competition - an unexpected request, considering she's not rail-thin.
“I was a little bit shocked,” Miss England Georgia Horsley said Friday in an interview on NBC's “Today” show.
“I dont think ‘I'm too thin. I'm happy with the way I am,” said the 20-year-old, who is a size 4. She added: “I probably would have been more hurt if they told me to lose weight, I think.”
Horsley said pageant organizers want their girls to be more voluptuous and womanly and curvy, you know, rather than the stick-thin, size-0 models that you see around.
Rapper T.I. released, will still face weapons trial
ATLANTA - Rapper T.I. was released on bond Friday, but he'll be confined to his home to await trial on weapons charges.
T.I. (real name: Clifford Harris) walked out of the federal courthouse in downtown Atlanta after posting a $3 million bond - $2 million in cash and $1 million in equity on property he owns.
“I want to thank all the fans for their support,” Harris said as he left the courthouse. “Due to the severity of the situation, I can't say much more.” Before hopping into a black sport utility vehicle, he added, “I want to get all of this behind me.”
U.S. Magistrate Judge Alan Baverman agreed to the bond over government objections so long as Harris follows certain conditions.
Kid Rock: I was provoked in Waffle House brawl
NEW YORK - Kid Rock isn't one to back down from a fight, but says he doesn't go looking for trouble.
“Last thing I want is to have a reputation. I believe in standing up for things I believe in,” the 36-year-old rock-rapper told Ellen DeGeneres on her syndicated talk show Thursday. “Being honest sometimes gets me in a little bit of trouble.”
Kid Rock was arrested last week after a brawl at a Waffle House restaurant in Atlanta.
“It started with me celebrating a great show that night. We were hungry. It was late at night,” he told DeGeneres.
“I know the people work hard at Waffle House so I tipped people behind the counter and gave $300 to split up. Bought everyone breakfast in there,” he said. “We had a good time. This one kid just started talking. ... And then one thing led to another, windows were breaking, cussing and fussing ... the mud, the blood and the beer.”
Kid Rock explained: “He said, ‘I hope you get mad, I'll sue the hell out of you.' I'm like, ‘Take a number.'”
