Why I vote only for pro-life candidates

Some people have wondered why I say it is important to support pro-life candidates, even when the position they're seeking may seem to be unrelated to the abortion issue? Well, there are a lot of reasons.
First of all, if you take a closer look, you may be surprised to find that there are ways in which a person who understands the infinite value of a human life can affect a given situation.

Take elected judges. There's no way any person who can support the killing of innocent babies can make sound value judgments about the guilt or innocence of anyone standing accused of a crime.

If a candidate truly understands the value of life from the beginning until death, he will make compassionate decisions regarding quality of life situations.

Pro-life candidates such as state Sen. Michael Nozzolio, who will likely seek re-election next year, and Mentz Supervisor Jack O'Neil, who is running for a spot on the town council this year, both understand that life begins at the moment of conception.

These men have recently worked together to help the residents of Haiti Island when their bridge collapsed and they could not get fuel, water or cars over to their island. Residents were walking long distances with children, groceries, laundry.

Nozzolio and O'Neil saw these islanders' quality of life was deteriorating, so they moved as quickly as the red tape would allow them in order to get funding to fix the situation.

Our city councilors, county and state legislators, and members of Congress all deal with human life one way or another.

Why would we want anyone assigned the responsibility of enacting laws who doesn't have a deep sense of the value of the lives they control?

In the final analysis, a vote for any pro-abortion candidate is wrong because we all affect and are affected by the people around us. Do you realize that Planned Parenthood gets $305 million of our tax dollars? We need strong elected officials to stop this.

We can do our part by making sure we vote for only pro-life candidates Eventually the pro-life stance will win out over those who choose death and murder. It has to. Otherwise humans would cease to exist. Our very survival is at stake.

The Bible says that when Cain murdered his brother, Abel, the blood of Abel cried out to heaven for vengeance. We can stop the killing of tens of millions of innocent babies, but we have to do it together. Let's think of these things when we go to the polls and vote pro-life.

" Karl, important issues sometimes require drastic measures. Let's be done with all this petty bs and fix it once and for all. LOL "

" Fair enough, sjmaggio, regarding Ducayne's opinion and her right to spew it; point conceded that, as a medical procedure, no abortion can be called unqualifiedly "safe". However, people like you and she who want to try to "put the genie back into the bottle" regarding today's current sexual mores and values are partly the cause of today's unfortunate, high abortion rates. Might I respectfully (honestly!) point out to you that YOUR WAY--"Why not raise pure young women and decent young men to be strong enough to wait until marriage."--has already been tried with the disastrous "Abstinence" campaigns, which were PROVEN to be an utter an abject FAILURE in their goal of doing exactly what you would propose! Look--kids are gonna have sex, period! The BEST thing we can do as a society, as parents and mentors, is to remove the Religious-based "shame" and ignorance of talking frankly about it TRUTHFULLY, and demystifying it so that when it happens, it happens RIGHT; i.e., WITH protection! "Waiting until marriage" is a fool's delusion these days; it's not the 1950's, ma'am, please!--people are waiting until their late 20's or even mid 30's to get married, if they get married at all, what with the pressures of job insecurity and the need to be mobile in today's world! What is an uncomfortable but UNDENIABLE truth is this--that the MORE Relationships, Sex, Love, breakups and heartbreaks you have, the BETTER you get at managing and improving upon ALL of these vital and life-affirming aspects of REAL LIFE! I believe that well-meaning people like you only seek to unrealistically insulate your kids from hurt, and from "making mistakes"--let me ask you this; when was the last time your kids ever took "your word" for ANYTHING and considered it "a lesson learned"? Kids learn through EXPERIENCE, but we don't want them to bring another life into the "mistake" should they have sex; therefore, it is the prescient, responsible thing to do, to educate them about condoms and safe sex and yes, the OPTION of Abstinence, but not the REQUIREMENT, and furthermore, THAT option should NOT be couched in terms of "sin" or "immorality". I'm not advocating indiscriminately sleeping around AT ALL, but I have observed that if you posit such matters in terms of "what good kids don't do", that's the SUREST way to create a promiscuous little rebel! Think about it! "

" There is no safe abortion!!! Try opening your eyes and researching what a “fetus” at 8 weeks looks like. This is a common time when abortions are preformed. While you are at it, look up the statistics of ages having them. Since when does money have anything to do with taking responsibility for our actions? I should not have to pay for your inability to afford a child through the misuse of our tax dollars to Planned Parenthood. If you have sex, take responsibility for your actions; otherwise don’t have sex! Why not raise pure young women and decent young men to be strong enough to wait until marriage. They have so many things that they could be focused on, instead of all the increased risks of STD’s, long term side effects of birth control pills, and cancers (HPV). Where are the parents, raising decent young people? Oh that’s right; our generation is a product of no consequences. Children having children, getting cervical cancer or STD’s to pass on to other partners, that is the American way! Abortion is not an answer, it is a COPOUT!!! For cases of rape, since when do we kill victims (in cases of unwanted pregnancies). Why not choose life and make something bad into something good, by choosing adoption. There is nothing valid to your argument except to state that you do not approve of Mrs. Ducayne. I am proud to stand with Judy on this, regardless of what else we don’t agree on. I applaud the Citizen in continuing to allow Judy to display her opinion, even if the uneducated, liberal-minded, majority disagrees. If the Citizen didn’t, then you might be censored as well! That's my opinion "

" It's really amazing just how detached from reality, and logic, and common sense her positions are. I mean really now, how can anyone who is anti-abortion possibly be against planned parenthood and the vital services they offer, especially contraception? This kind of logic drives me bananas. Is Ducayne really that mentally challenged? It would appear so. But this has always been a problem for the hypocritical right wing wackos. Judy, voting pro-life is no guarantee whatsoever that you are going to elect those who would offer "compassionate decisions regarding quality of life situations." Just take the Iraq war for example, and as Karl noted the record number of executions under George Bush when he was governor of TX, one of which he openly mocked in an utterly disgraceful way. "Compassion" isn't in their dictionary, but your blinders prevent you from noticing this Judy. I agree with Karl - I think this warrants a replacement. "

" I disagee with abortions being used a method of birth control over and over with taxing paying dollars. Yet I do feel these protestors that stand in front of Planned Parenthood are nothing but hypocrites-for they rant save a life yet there are hundreds of homeless children in the USA in need of a good home. If they want to save a child BEGIN at a foster home-a good percentage of these kids tend to be the next in line for abortions! "

" Jeez, Judy, you're not pro-life, you're just anti-aborion. If you were truly pro-life, you'd be against Bush's war for oil. That's killing thousands of folks. Or have you forgotten about those lives? Since you dragged the Bible into this again, here's a Bible quote I've never seen "pro-lifers" mention. Psalms 137:9 "Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones." "

" Honestly, I have had conversations with 11 year old students who make more logical sense than Judy Ducayne. I respect her right to an opinion. She needs to realize that she should be responsible enough as a columnist to back her opinions with SOME sensible thought or fact. The Citizen needs to replace her column with cartoons. "

" I confess that, yet again, I am dumbfounded by what mental processes Judy Ducayne puts her obviously-befuddled brain through to come up with arguments as completely disconnected and incoherent as the latest one where she attempted to defend her blind habit of voting exclusively "Pro-Life". Judy obviously is impervious to logic or facts, as she holds to the fantasy that only a pro-life person could ever “make sound value judgments about the guilt or innocence of anyone standing accused of a crime.” I guess she didn’t read the letter I posted months ago about the bloodthirsty regime of George Bush’s Texas governorship and his notoriously corrupt and error-filled record of record numbers of death-row executions—of sometimes prove-innocent people. He even joked about a few of them. Then she tries to conflate a "pro-life" stance with two politicians who acted with urgency on a matter of civil engineering. HUH?! Citizen Editors, I ask you with utter seriousness; are you sure that your Tuesday columnist is any longer even dealing with a full deck? But most disturbingly, Judy sounds the alarm to stop Planned Parenthood, an organization which provides not only SAFE abortions to women who cannot possibly afford another child, but more importantly, medically sound, correct information on contraception options and reproductive health--free of the ideological hogwash which characterize the Religious Right's pathetic, contemptible efforts to control the Reproductive Rights conversation--especially to the young and naive. (Ducayne's letter would be, ironically, a perfect example of their treacherously corrupted "logic"!) You know, it would almost be funny--was it not so serious. The very FIRST step in preventing unwanted pregnancies and therefore, abortion, is through knowledge, education, and most importantly, responsible, consistent use of highly-effective contraceptives. Ducayne used to be just a serious annoyance, but now her tripe is becoming dangerous misinformation. Enough already! "

" Typical right wing nonsense...love the life until its born, then complain and deny funding to the social programs needed to sustain such life... everyone is pro choice...you either choose to have or not have a baby. Instead of focusing on overturing Roe V Wade why not focus on convincing people who are pregnant to keep it, or give up to adoption, or talk about condoms, masterbation and birth control (why these topics are taboo are beyond me). Once abortion is illegal it becomes unsafe and the can of worms opened becomes even more dangerous. "

" Though I am certainly pro life, I had a very large problem with this particular article. Judy stated that a pro life judge is not fit to make decisions on guilt and innocence. I have news for you, this is America, the judge has nothing to do with the decision making process. The JURY decides guilt and innocence. If the judge made the decision, this would be a dictatorship. "

" Where did you get the idea that only welfare recipients have abotions? Women from all socioeconomic levels have abotions. The supreme court has ruled that it is a woman's right to choose whether or not to continue an unplanned pregnancy. If you don't believe in abortion, don't have one. I believe that there are many other reasons to choose a candidate, not only the one issue. Those of us who believe in a woman's right to choose will not allow the laws to go backward. "

" The conservatives can't adopt them all - if we could put an end to pricetagging and making designer children via in-vitro fertilization, surrogate parenthood, and artifical insemination, then all those poor children can have loving homes and the world will have a shot at true and lasting peace. The U.S. as a whole spends about $88 billion for abortions just on American soil alone. "
