Victory residents receiving surveys
The Central New York Regional Planning and Development Board recently sent more than 725 surveys to Victory town residents and landowners. The surveys, which will help a comprehensive plan committee, are due by Nov. 6. The committee is working on the town's first comprehensive plan that will map out the next five to 20 years of development and land use in the town.

DVD profiles Unity House services
Unity House of Cayuga County recently released a 22-minute DVD featuring an overview of its services.
The nonprofit organization dedicated to providing transitional and permanent house as well as rehabilitation services received some production help from Digital Media Solutions of CNY and Channel 3 news anchor Don Lark, who narrates “Empowering Lives, Securing Futures.” Unity House works with more than 700 people with development disabilities, mental health illnesses and drug addiction in six central New York counties.
“Our Unity House DVD focuses on who we are and what we do in a format that helps demonstrate our never-ending commitment to empowering the lives of the consumers we serve and their families,” Executive Director Joyce Williams said in a press release. “Along with our redesigned Web site, updated information packet and just-resurrected newsletter, our agency DVD provides our stakeholders, supporters, constituents and communities with a fourth perspective of the comprehensive work we do.”

Author, illustrator comes to Aurora
The 2007 Family Art Series will feature author and illustrator Suzanne Bloom at 11 a.m. today, Oct. 27, at The Aurora Free Library's Morgan Opera House, on the second floor of the library, located on State Route 90 and Cherry Avenue in Aurora.
For nearly 20 years, Bloom has been writing and illustrating children's books, including “No Place for a Pig,” Melissa Parkington's “Beautiful Beautiful Hair” and “Girls A to Z.” She was recently an honor winner of the first Theodor Seuss Geisel Award for “A Splendid Friend, Indeed.” To learn more, call 364-5437.
Lattimore secures CSEA backing
The CSEA/AFSCME Local 1000, which represents Auburn's civilian labor force, endorsed mayor Timothy Lattimore in his bid for re-election.
“I am honored by CSEA#'s support,” said Lattimore in a press release. “This endorsement along with our police officers shows that the workers of this city stand solidly behind our efforts to move Auburn forward.”
Sign-up deadline for gun class nears
People can take a gun safety course from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, at the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge Hunter Check Station, Route 89 North. The class is a computer based training class. Participants have to study and take quizzes on the Internet or on a supplied CD before attending the Sunday class. The studying will take about 10 to 12 hours. Participants must register by Sunday, Oct. 28, by calling 252-1321 of e-mail habitat@bci.net.
