Goulet hospitalized, needs lung transplant
Singer and actor Robert Goulet is heavily sedated and breathing through a respirator in a Los Angeles hospital while he awaits a lung transplant, his wife told The Associated Press on Tuesday.
“He can hear me but he can't respond,” Vera Goulet said of the 73-year-old crooner.
Vera Goulet said doctors told her the lung transplants are the most successful operation of any transplant, with a success rate of 88 percent. A suitable donor has yet to be found, she said.
“God willing, if we proceed with this, our doctors feel that there's no reason he will not have at least 15 years of life doing what he does, going back on stage and singing,” she said. “That's very encouraging.”
The singer fell ill when flying home to Las Vegas after performing at a Sept. 20 concert in Syracuse, his wife said.
Dave Matthews will play at Army football rallies
The Dave Matthews Band will play for Army football next month - at two free shows.
The U.S. Military Academy beat out Air Force, Navy and more than 100 other colleges that participated in the World's Loudest Pep Rally contest to win a visit from the rock star. Matthews will play for cadets Nov. 14 and 15.
“Congratulations! We'll see you in November,” Matthews, 40, said in a videotape that was to be shown to cadets at West Point's mess hall Wednesday.
Cadets at the storied Hudson Valley academy won the contest by submitting invitations by text messages or postings at attblueroom.com. AT&T sponsored the contest.
Cadets showed off their hip-hop moves in one posted video, while others made direct pleas to Matthews, such as “West Point NEEDS someone to ROCK our stonewalled campus.”
Marie Osmond stays, Mark Cuban voted off
Marie Osmond was down, but she's still a competitor on ABC's “Dancing With the Stars.”
The 48-year-old singer, who fainted during Monday's live broadcast, will see another week on the top-rated dance competition after Mark Cuban was voted off Tuesday night.
The hit series, which pairs celebrities with professional dancers, puts its stars through rigorous dance routines. When asked whether she is OK to perform next week, Osmond replied: “Oh yeah. Bring it on.”
Cuban, the billionaire owner of the Dallas Mavericks, left the stage on a high note after his elimination.
“I've gained so many new friends,” he said. “I've gained such an appreciation for the effort that everybody puts in - and, you know what? It's just been such an amazing, amazing experience. I wouldn't have traded it for the world.”
