My boyfriend's mother was made very sick drinking the water from her well because it had e-coli in it from overspreading of manure on adjacent farm fields. There have been bogs of hog manure in North Carolina which exploded from the build up of methane. Factory farming is just an dangerous to our health and environment as a factory with a smokestack or a chemical plant. Aaron is clever enough to realize it isn't just the smell, but a threat to his health, and that of his pet as well -- which means it is also a threat to the health of wildlife in the area, and to water quality, to air quality, etc. The odor is merely a marker of something much more dangerous than just a smell.
