AUBURN - School Superintendent John Plume said prospects for state aid for education remain dim considering the looming budget crisis in Albany. At the regular school board meeting Tuesday night at Auburn High School, Plume said the state has projected a minimum deficit of $8 billion. Aid for the Auburn district will start at 10 per cent of the programs that were funded this school year. Even reasonable requests for new money, such as a salary for a math lab aide for the Auburn middle schools, are in jeopardy. Board member David Lansford shared Plume's concern and said that it was important, in light of the upcoming state budget woes, to keep the public informed about the lack of state aid.
