Chuck Mason's work for the Quill campaign has been sordid and dishonorable.
He began by challenging my petitions and those of Cherry Love-Duncan in an attempt to deny the voters of their chance to choose their own candidates.
Now he is trying to mislead the people about my record.
Perhaps all of these dirty tactics are an attempt to distract the voters from the fact that his candidate, Chief Mike Quill, has no record, no experience and no plan for what he would do as mayor.
No matter what his motives, I have never been afraid of my record. And I am not afraid to set the record straight yet again.
1. The mayor's secretary received a standard severance package, no different than any other city employee would receive when leaving. I didn't negotiate the agreement. It was drawn up by Tom Leone (then corporation council) and approved unanimously by the council: Tom McNabb, Bob Hunter, Bill Jacobs, Mayor Lattimore and myself. There has never been anything secretive about this.
2. “The Brawl” was a simple case of me defending myself when the mayor attacked me. There are sworn affidavits from the witnesses to the event (Councilors McNabb, Hunter and Jacobs).
3. I left AIDA because Mayor Lattimore's antics were damaging the city's economic development efforts. For six months he would not re-appoint me or other members to the board who were due for re-appointment. Two members were visibly upset and resigned: Cindy Aikman and Kelly Gridley. I resigned because the mayor made his personal difficulties with me a distraction to the board.
The only thing Mr. Mason is correct about is that Mayor Lattimore has failed miserably to bring 1,500 new jobs to Auburn.
But here is the record that Chuck doesn't want to discuss.
I have 16 years experience in the county and city government, working hard to balance budgets and keep taxes down.
I have a realistic plan to reduce costs by consolidating city and county services.
It is disappointing that Chief Quill's campaign has resorted to cheap personal attacks by Mr. Mason rather than talking about the real issues. The people deserve better.
