Last week, I touched upon the value of conserving energy and winterizing your home. However, the article only brushed the surface of this topic.
There is so much more to learn and talk about.
That is why Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cayuga County will join with experts in the energy efficiency and building industry to sponsor a free seminar on how to make your home more energy efficient, the home performance program and financial benefits.
The Residential Energy Seminar is intended for homeowners of single to four-family unit residences. It will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, at the CCE Cayuga County Education Center, 248 Grant Avenue, Auburn.
The seminar will focus on the financial and environmental benefits of improving energy efficiency of a residence.
Mark Pierce, of Cornell University, will demonstrate how to lower energy bills through a variety of means including general energy saving tips and simple lifestyle changes, better insulation levels and high-efficiency heating and cooling systems that can save homeowners hundreds of dollars annually on their utility bills.
The seminar will also provide information on NYSERDA's technical and financial assistance programs that are available to help with renovation or construction of energy-efficient residences.
In addition, a locally BPI (Building Performance Institute) certified contractor will present information on NYSERDA's Home Performance programs.
The contractor will demonstrate how they conduct a home energy audit, what they look for and what is explained in the final report.
Financial benefits and state and federal tax credits will also be discussed.
To register for this seminar or for more information, contact Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cayuga County at 255-1183.
There is no fee to attend and each participant will receive a free compact florescent light bulb for their home.
The /Consumer Education Program for Residential Energy Efficiency (CEPREE)/ is a joint effort between the Department of Design and Environmental Analysis at Cornell University and the New York State Energy Research Development Authority (NYSERDA).
The goals of this program are to increase consumer awareness on the importance of energy efficiency and New York Energy $mart to make single-family homes and multifamily buildings more energy efficient.
