Raising babies on the street was challenging
Each Sunday, The Citizen features a pet which is available for adoption.
This week, we spotlight Momma Cat.
Q. Who is your best friend?
A. I have many best friends - all of the felines in here - and there are a lot of us.
Q. Do you know any special tricks?
A. I hide my Greenies under my bed; the staff thinks I have eaten them - so they give me more. When everyone leaves, I take them all out and I have a Greenie feast!
Q. Do you get along with other animals?
A. I didn't like other cats at first, but I'm just fine with them now.
Q. Who do you prefer, adults or children?
A. Both as long as they are kind and gentle.
Q. How often do you like to be groomed?
A. I love to be brushed, so that could be an every day thing for me. However, nail clipping is another issue that will definitely have to be negotiated. But I think the staff would be happy to do that if my new guardian doesn't feel comfortable doing it.
Q. What has been your worst experience?
A. Being homeless with babies to take care of.
Q. When you go to your new home, what is the first thing you want to do?
A. Relax and then check out all of the new spaces and perches.
Q. Do you have any advice for The Citizen's readers?
A. October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month. October is more than half over ... so please hurry down to find your new best friend and look at all the great puppies. While you're here, please check me out too.
Momma Cat
Age: 3-4 years old
Breed: Domestic shorthair
Comments from the SPCA: Momma Cat came to the shelter early in the summer - along with six kittens. Most of the babies have gone on to great new homes, and Momma now feels it is her turn. We couldn't agree with her more.
Momma is a very nice, friendly girl who hasn't lost much of the kitten playfulness. She loves to eat - so we have to keep our eye on her diet and we let her get as much exercise as possible. She keeps her condo as neat as she can, uses her litter box faithfully and overall is a very clean girl.
Momma Cat has been tested for FIV/FeLV and she is negative. She is up to date on all vaccinations, has been treated for fleas and worms, has been vaccinated against feline kennel cough and she has been spayed and microchipped. Momma is good to go, and she is just waiting for Mr. or Ms. Right to walk in the door and find her.
The adoption fee for Momma is $120. To learn more, call the shelter at 253-5841.
