to tour Athenaeum
The Skaneateles Historical Society will be held at The Athenaeum of Skaneateles, the new senior residence, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23. The program will begin with a tour of this stunning home and follow with a viewing of “A Place in the Sun,” the 1951 film starring Montgomery Clift, Elizabeth Taylor and Shelley Winters. The film is based on the tragic story of Grace Brown and Chester Gillette, which was discussed at the September Creamery program.
The Athenaeum of Skaneateles is located at 150 E. Genesee St. Parking is available behind the building (off of Lakeview Circle) and on Genesee Street.
Holiday Parade
to begin 21st year
The Downtown Auburn Business Improvement District will hold its 21st annual Holiday Parade and Family Fun Day Saturday, Nov. 24.
Activities will include free horse-drawn wagon rides and family activities at the Auburn Public Theater starting at 3:30 p.m. The parade, with the arrival of Santa Claus, will begin at 6 p.m.
A tree-lighting ceremony will be held immediately following the parade.
Children can visit with Santa and attend Bob Lyna's Merry Sing-Along at 7 p.m., at the Auburn Public Theater. New this year, a bonfire conducted by the Auburn Fire Department, with music performed by the Auburn Civic Band at 7:30 p.m. in the parking lot across from city hall.
BID is now accepting registration for any business, organization or individual to participate with a float in the parade. All floats should have a holiday theme, and cash prizes will be awarded.

Quilt show returns to Schweinfurth
The Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center will open its 26th annual juried quilt show, Quilts=Art=Quilts next month. The exhibit will be on view through Jan. 6, 2008 and will feature 91 quilts by 82 artists.
The jurors, Liz Axford, Nancy Halpern and Jonathan Holstein, chose from more than 330 entries and elected quilts for their overall visual impact, design and originality.
Special events planned for the opening weekend include a preview reception with award presentations and silent quilt auction from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3. The preview reception is free and open to the public.
On Sunday, Nov. 4, the center will offer tours of the quilt show led by Executive Consultant Eugenia Barnes and Director Donna Lamb at 1 and 3:30 p.m. Also at 2:30 p.m. that day juror and quilt collector Jonathan Holstein will present a lecture titled “Looking at American Quilts.” Admission is $5 for adults and free for art center members and children under 12. All quilt programs are free with admission to the quilt show.

The Frontenac Historical Society and Museum will sponsor a holiday bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at the museum, 178 Cayuga St., Union Springs.
Donations of new and quality items (no clothing) for the sale may be made by contacting Dawn Locastro at 889-5278. Pick up of items may also be arranged. Proceeds of the bazaar will benefit the operating expense of the museum.
