“The difference between fiction and reality? Fiction has to make sense.”
- Tom Clancy

It has been said that all things, if you wait long enough, come back into style.

Well the events of these past weeks are no different. Perhaps I should give you some back-story. There are times when it can be difficult coming up with a subject to write about that might be amusing or at the very least doesn't turn into a complete waste of 20 minutes of your time. I could always write about my personal life, but that's more of a romantic comedy than an action adventure story and I'm sure, like me, you would all love a bit more action.

I try and stay clear of any political commentary mostly because I always have this underlying fear that someday I'll write something that actually offends someone and they'll be forced to give me a black eye. And to be honest, I don't feel like running for mayor, and that seems to be the prerequisite.

So now, sitting in this coffee shop enjoying my hot chocolate, I am feeling the dark cloud of writer's block.

It is times like these that all I have to do for inspiration is just open the paper or turn on the news and, like a dam bursting, my writer's block is washed away and I am left trying to keep up with the current events. So what headlines are tickling my fancy lately?

OJ's back in the game again, and, truthfully, I've really missed him. He brought all the elements of a bad movie to the legal system. There were corny phrases (If it doesn't fit you must acquit) and cool slogans (the juice is loose). I loved it.

The whole plot even came with a dramatic twist ending that not even a seasoned script writer could have come up with. And now he's back. Only instead of killing it's robbery. That's one of the things I've always admired about the guy; he's diversified. Football legend, movie star, accused killer; there's just no keeping this guy down.

He saw that we needed another roller coaster of justice and he is providing us with another thrill to rubber neck. What can I say? He's a giver. Well, the charges were for robbery so maybe “giver” isn't the right word, but I'm sure you get the idea just the same.

If you haven't been paying attention, there's also a war going on, and while that's no laughing matter the way it's being handled is sort of entertaining. I mean the government is saying it's not about money but they treat it as though it were a 401K account and they don't want to pay any of the fines with an early withdrawal.

If I'm really in a pinch I could always talk about the woman we all admire: Britney.

Now I don't know if she's a decent person or not but, to be blunt, I've met strippers with better table manners.

While some folks might view these headlines as our society's downward decline, for me, I see them for what they really are: job security.
