Two Cents

Wouldn't it be nice to see your name on a paper at the new Veterans Memorial Park in downtown Auburn? Think about it.
To all you wannabees out there wearing military ball caps - serve your country first.

Think about what you are doing next time when you are parking in front of a handicap sign.

The police should start ticketing people on the westbound arterial. There is a speed limit there.

Isn't there a health hazard shutting off people's water and they're not being able to use their toilets?

Before blaming the president, read what Hillary's child care says: Children are children up to the age of 21, and low income is anyone under $82,000 a year, all paid for by our taxpayers.

It's no surprise that the smart money bettors in central New York have made our fine mayor, Timothy Lattimore, the heavy favorite to stay on as mayor. But the shocking thing is that David Dempsey is a favorite to finish second over inept Mike Quill.

The Cato Town Board got it right; accountability works for me.

Lattimore + Dempsey = HUGE Embarrassment for Auburn.

" Military caps aren't my style at all (though I did earn an Army Reserve cap for making to the top of a 40 ft rockclimbing wall) -- but maybe kids where them to emulate those they admire. I agree with Karl -- I really can't figure out A) why anyone would make such a big deal out of such a piddly non-issue and B) why the Citizen repeatedly prints the same stupid complaint. Yikes -- thanks for the recap! (pun intended) "

" If I can buy a military cap at a store with my hard earned money---to support the troops---why can't I wear it? No, I never served, but my brother is a soldier, and if he says I can wear one to support him and the other men and women who are in the military...then I WILL!! "

" If you are so fearful of the health hazard in shutting off water, than why don't you volunteer to pay deadbeats water bills? "

" I'll wear any hat I want to and this country has a military that fights and dies for me to have the right to wear it, so shut your pie hole. "

" I disagree with Gino. Quill didn't quit when things got hard, he recognized that the system (read Lattimore) needed to change. City Hall was a mess and he knew he had the leadership to make a difference. He retired and set out to change city hall, by becoming mayor. "

" Cliff notes are getting pricey these days so here's a general recap of todays two cents column free of charge. Taxpayer 666 isn't happy in Cato and wants change. Vic's playing the upstate/downstate card. Farmer's Gal believes the $82,000 figure isn't realistic in terms of corn bread and chicken. Karl is on a hunt for a redwood tree. AJ has Tim Lattimore on his/her mind and Gino seems to write with the same grammatical errors as another area gadfly, perhaps JM? "

Gino wrote on Oct 17, 2007 7:16 PM:

" As mayor how will Mike Quill respond when the time comes to discuss the fire dept, be it budget, contract negotiations or grants. Will he resign and walk away as he has done when things got tough? Will he be able to vote against the fire dept and his old mates if it comes to it as mayor of the people of this fair city? I know I won't take that chance and throw my vote away by voting for him. Four years is to long to suffer my mistake. I am a registered democrat. "

createamemberid wrote on Oct 17, 2007 6:25 PM:

" Just a friendly reminder, Auburn city government is council-city manager run, Mr. Lattimore is merely a figurehead, and does nothing for the city, in short if the position of mayor were eliminated in the city of Auburn, the taxpayers could save $11,000 a year. "

Farmer's Gal wrote on Oct 17, 2007 12:38 PM:

" Since when is $82,000 "low income?" The Financial Aid form for college doesn't think so! Maybe that bill should be reframed -- I can't agree with denying this aid to truly low-income children, but $82,000 is not a low income unless the family has 8 or more children or something. "

vic wrote on Oct 17, 2007 12:29 PM:

" Around Auburn (where you can buy a house in the city for $70K)$82K is an awful lot of money. However for people who live in NYC where your rent will likely run you well over $2K a month easy for a small apartment, $82K really isn't that much. Accommodations should be made for the cost of living of the area. "
