DEWITT - Two men died and a 5-year-old girl was taken to University Hospital after a head-on collision on the Thruway east of Syracuse.
State police say the driver of an eastbound 2007 Ford Escape crossed the median and hit an oncoming 1995 Subaru Legacy in the westbound lane. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

A westbound stretch of the highway was closed for about five hours after the 1 a.m. collision.

The driver of the Subaru was Robert L. Stergas, 71, of Syracuse. The Ford's driver was Mark Timothy Coyle, 42. His daughter was listed in serious condition at the hospital, troopers said.
