Why is it that Bush will spend $750 million on an embassy in Iraq, which is not working, and doesn't want to spend $35 million on health care for children?
No one ever lost any money underestimating the intelligence of the Democrat Party. And their strategy this year to sabotage everything we do to fight terrorism, to side with the Muslim terrorists against our troops, and to give driver's licenses to our illegal invaders, is going to backfire on the Democrat Party.

I met Jon Budelmann at the blueberry pancake breakfast in Cato and I also saw him at the 150th birthday celebration in the village of Cayuga. After approaching him and speaking with him at length I believe that he is the right choice to lead the district attorney's office into the future.

After 231 years, nine people in black robes are about to decide if America remains a republic with a constitution and Bill of Rights that “shall not be infringed” or continue down the path that allows the country's lying, stealing, murdering judges, lawyers, politicians and bureaucrats at all levels of government to infringe on our rights and control the people.

I can't believe the local Dems had illegal alien lover Spitzer come to Auburn to make money for them. Any person that puts my family in danger by not enforcing the law is unwelcome.

This young man who shot the four people in a Cleveland school would never have done it if every adult in that school was forced to be armed.

Hillary's 401 (k) program is nothing more than another politician's cookie jar.

Will Cayuga County's county clerk and staff have half the backbone of Cortland's county clerk? Will the DA charge them if they do not?

If Dan and Connie Randolph believe the Black River to be in western New York, how can any statement in their letter bashing CAFOs be believed?

Of course it angers me as well as many other fans: Orangemen losing, the New York Yankees losing. All these coaches are making million dollar contracts ... and they can't perform to get the teams to do any better.

Once again former president Jimmy Carter has had the courage to speak the unvarnished truth about this administration and the tactics of torture. Can we reelect this man for president please?

It's not very professional to go into a local bank to do your business and have one of its employees gossiping about her neighbors.

We are a small group of hearing impaired people, and we're complaining about the weather reports on CBS, ABC and NBC. Why aren't they captioned so we can enjoy them also?

(The former) city manager made a big mistake negotiating the 15-man minimum with the fire department and that's why he's gone. Now the AFD union, if they care about Auburn taxpayers, should open their contract and eliminate the 15-man minimum because $29,000 overtime in one two-week period is not moral

District 3 voters for county legislator: Please wake up this year. Mr. Weed has 40 years in public service, Axton has zero.

I've noticed that Chuck Mason, “Mr. Democrat,” is trying to make the other two candidates for mayor of Auburn look bad, in his view published Monday. Of the three candidates, “Larry” Lattimore, “Moe” Dempsey, and “Curly” Quill, I believe that Mr. Lattimore is still the best qualified for the position.

America has become a victim of a male-attitude of all play and no work makes Dad a happy husband. Meanwhile his wife mows the lawn, cleans the house, cooks the meals, washes the clothes, takes care of his children, and works a 40-hour-a-week job outside the home.

When will our county legislators start to pay 20 to 25 percent of their health insurance costs like most employees in our school district, factories, county nurses or other organizations. Taxpayers should not have to pay for all of their fringe benefits.

John Klink's recent letter was full of absolute falsehoods and heavily edited facts. This is a man who will resort to anything but the truth to win an election.

People of Cato and Meridian get out and vote. You have to get rid of the two board members (Dennison/Chapman) who think that they can run the whole town and not have to answer to the taxpayers on why they can OK spending more taxpayers money when they already have a fire department in town.

Monday's tragic fatality on Franklin Street Road certainly prompts one to question the road's safety due to its twists and turns, combined with its “tickle your tummy” hills and narrow, eroded shoulders making it impossible to see oncoming traffic, particularly bicyclists, until the very last second.

" Carter got all the pieces in place by the end of the election year, but forces unfriendly towards HIM saw to it that things were stalled so that the hostages weren't actually freed until just barely into Reagan's reign. You think Reagan did that in just a few days?!?? It was all set up through Carter's efforts before, but the actual release was stalled so Reagan could take credit. I agree that Carter was often ineffectual as a President -- no argument. But the reason was that he did not have the backing of so many corporate interests and the AIPAC and other powerful political groups BECAUSE HE WAS NOT BOUGHT -- like all the presidents since then. This is the reason I spent so many years not voting at all -- because anyone who is a viable candidate and gets on the ballot only gets there by prostituting him- or herself to corporate interests -- which are NOT in our interests. And as a dear friend of mine always says: The lesser of two evils is still evil. I could never bring myself to vote for these guys -- and have often done a write-in with my mother's name just to exercise my right to vote. Morally, I just could not bring myself to cast a vote for most of these scumbags. (I remember when Reagan was shot too -- I was in high school, at track practice, at a school outside Detroit. No one knew quite how to react; no one wanted to cheer that anyone had been shot, yet no one liked felt much pity either. Believe me, in Detroit in the early 80s, we had daily evidence of the LACK of economic prosperity brought about during the Reagan era). As high as the published unemployment figures were, they stopped counting people who ran out of benefits but were still unemployed. I would not be surprised if the real numbers were over 20%. Like I always say, it was a good place to leave.... "

" tome8689, I have learned to trust "Farmer's Gal"'s acute acumen, and you should too. Ok, I'll admit--I oversimplified; I know the reasons for Iran's intransigence are way deeper than Iraq today. Sit back and I'll educate you. In 1951 the "most popular politician in the country", Dr. Mohammed Mossadegh was elected president of Iran, on the promise of nationalizing the ONLY oil company operating in Iran at the time--BP, or British Petroleum. Though he offered them considerable compensation, BP organized an International economic embargo of Iran at the time which threw the Iranian economy into chaos. The CIA started spending millions on ways to get rid of Mossadegh, and installed the Shah in 1953, after a nine hour tank battle in the streets of Tehran in which Mossadegh was deposed. In 1976, Amnesty International reported that the SHah's CIA-trained security force SAVAK had the WORST human-rights record on the planet, and that the number of interrogation and torture techniques that the CIA had taught SAVAK were "beyond belief". WHen the Iranians finally overthrew the Shah, it was with great bitterness and resentment toward the USA for installing him in the FIRST place. ALL FOR OIL COMPANIES!!! Now do you see once again how this whole Iran/Iraq thing is ALL ABOUT OIL?! Only a callow moron would believe that they "hate our way of life and our freedom! GUFFAW! Plus, I stand FIRM on my contentions regarding the hostage crisis. The looneybin-Hawks were running Reagan's administration behind the scenes, and the truth is that then as now, these hamburger-headed "macho" posers can't stand ANYONE who would think twice before solving any problem with a baseball bat, ie, they hated Carter because they saw him as "effiminate". And as far as "only talking", Carter did more than that--he imposed sanctions, he halted oil imports from Iran, (PO'ing those powerful oil companies yet again!) and froze their assets. This caused so much internal strife that Iran decided the time was right to negotiate. Personally, I think Carter did the right thing--what else was he to do? Invade the country after we had just gotten our butts kicked in Viet Nam and the entire country was war-weary and the military was as broken as it is now? Carter did the SMART thing--not the macho thing. And that really burns the meatheads who have to settle everything with a club. BTW, I'm interested in hearing what YOU think Reagan would've done differently, and where that would've put America at that point in history? "

" Farmers Gal....Jimmy Carter had 444 days to free the hostages. He was president and had every government agency at his disposal to get them released. He decided to talk his way through it. Get your facts right. No one knew who was going to win the election unless you had some inside information. Carter is a great humanitarian but was a pathetic president! "

" Karl you are the one who is inaccurate and unintelligent. You think you can make a statement and end the statement with check your history and that makes you right. You need to check your history...Carter made two attempts to get our hostages back. Both these attempts failed. People in his own administration have said he bungled the whole hostage situation. Yeah the only correct thing you said was Carter negotiated with Iran. He did it for 444 days. Imagine the horror those people endured while Carter just talked! As for Irag being the cause of Iran today really demonstrates what a complete uninformed moron you are. During the Clinton years 1995 this country imposed an embargo on any US country from doing business with Iran over their nuclear involvement and their support of terrorism. So it did not begin with the Iraq war. Try reading a history book Karl. If you can stomach the real truth! "

" Its not 35 million but 35 Billion over 5 years for the so called childrens health insurance. The Dems want to add 4 million more people that includes children up to the age of 25 and those who may have family incomes up to $83.000. They will finance it by adding tax on smokes that will hurt the poorest of the people they claim to represent. Bush wants to keep the program as is and add 5 Billion to the funding. Thats the facts but don't let them get in your way when you bash Bush. "

" I can remember the hostage crisis under Carter -- it was an election year. Pro-Reagan forces in the government purposely stalled things so the hostages would not be freed until Reagan took office, letting them stay and suffer even longer for political maneuvering back home -- disgusting. History books may not make a note of it, but it was very obvious at the time. Jimmy Carter has always struck me as the only modern American president who might even have had the smallest shred of honesty about him. His honesty rendered him less effective because he didn't get the backing he needed due to not having been entirely bought and owned by corporate America and other Political Action Committees. There were good and weak points about his tenure, but he's one of the few in government during my lifetime whom I think has any integrity at all. "

Quill didn't vote for the fifteen man minimum Dempsey did and Lattimore for reasons only known in his fantasy world knows. If you knew some people who work for the city and around the city you would know Quill has done allot for people all around this community. Not just tried to make himself look important like the other two. Quill tried to help people and do what is right. "

" Our current problems in Iran are due to us invading Iraq, dummy! BTW, READ YOUR HISTORY!!! Carter was the one who forced the Iranians into negotiating the release of the American hostages by sanctions and other actions, but the Iranians were so bitter and resentful because of the political and cultural unrest that the shortages caused that they DELIBERATELY shamed him by waiting til that moron Reagan took office and ONLY THEN released them. BOTTOM LINE--Carter did the legwork, Reagan took the much-undeserved credit! "

" It won't be until Jimmy Carters' death that people will speak about what a pathetic president he was. You don't need to be a genius to see that our current problems with Iran are tied to his absolute catastrophic handling of the hostages during his tenure. They were released because the Shah feared what Reagan would do to him and his country. They knew Carter had no spine. His years in office were an embarrassment to this country. He'll be remembered for his great work for Habitat for Humanity and nothing remotely positive he did while he was in office! "
