The Citizen staff report
AUBURN -- Auburn police are currently investigating an attempted robbery that occurred Monday morning.

According to the Auburn Police Department, officials were alerted at 6:15 a.m. that a man had entered the pharmacy at Walgreens, 150 Grant Ave., demanding narcotic pain killers from the pharmacist on duty. The man told the pharmacist that he was carrying a gun, though no weapons were displayed, police said.

The clerk refused to give the man any painkillers before attempting to call police, officials said. After he prevented the pharmacist from making the call, the man fled the store in an unknown direction.

No drugs were obtained and no one was injured, according to police.

The suspect was described as a white male, 5-foot-6 to 8-inches tall, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt. Auburn police ask anyone with any information to call 253-3235 or 255-4726.

" It sounds like the Pharmacies need to start installing cameras at the drug counters. As for the criminal saying "I have a gun, give me drugs" the courts should like at this as "Having a weapon during the crime" and enhance the jail time with an additional 5 years. "

" If a criminal doesn't show a gun he doesn't have one. You can make a great decision sitting by your computer but he was there and made a decision and he did not perceive any danger. If we hand out drugs and money to everyone that verbally demands it, there will be complete chaos in the retail business. If there is an imminent threat then the pharmacist should co-operate. Neither action guarantees your life. "

" Refused to give him pain killers, so when the clerk gets shot over something so sad, he can say he/she was doing there duty. Doesnt walgreens teach their employees that no merchandise is worth their employees life or was the employee tring to be a hero. "
