Ice sculpting, family life's pure passions
Each Monday, The Citizen features someone from the Finger Lakes community. This week, we spotlight Stan Kolonko.
Q. What is the most rewarding part of your job?
A. When I can please the clients.
Q. What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
A. Finding time and staying organized.
Q. What is the oddest request for an ice sculpture a client has asked for?
A. That's hard to say. Once I was asked for a Hokie Bird. Other requests include for a women's torso or many more objects.
Q. What would be your dream job, and in what part of the world would you be working?
A. I would be a full time sculptor. I could do this anywhere as long as I was with my family.
Q. What's the best way to relax after a tough day?
A. Usually just by taking time to myself.
Q. What do you like most about living in the Finger Lakes region?
A. The rural lifestyle with metro conveniences.
Q. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A. With an expanded ice company and working from home.
Q. If you were to win the lottery tomorrow, what's the first thing you'd do?
A. Pay off debt, invest and keep working. Maybe take a long vacation first.
Q. What would people who think they know you be most surprised to find out about you?
A. The diversity in what I am able to do.
Q. Do you have any special plans for the next few months?
A. Go to ice competitions in Ottawa, Canada and The World Championships in Fairbanks, Alaska.
