Auburn woman wins Emmy
Sarah Sevier, daughter of Marleah and Charles Sevier of Auburn, won an Emmy Award for extraordinary journalism, at the Rocky Mountain Emmy Awards ceremony held October 6th. Sarah is a television news reporter for KPNX-TV, the NBC affiliate in Phoenix, Arizona. She is a graduate of the Newhouse School of Public Communications, and worked as a general assignment reporter at WUTR-TV in Utica, and for News 10 Now in Oswego and Syracuse.
Benefit to be held for Burnet family
A pasta dinner benefit for the Burnet Family will be held 1 to 5 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 28 at the Union Springs Fire Department Hall, Route 90, Union Springs. Todd and Dawn Burnet, and their three children, lost their Springport home to a fire on Sept. 19.
There will be raffles, door prizes, auction and music provided by DJ Doug Derleth and MC Art Wenzel.

Celebrate “Seward's Folly” at storytime
Seward House will present an Alaska-themed storytime for children, ages 2 to 6 at 11a.m., Saturday, October 20. Jennifer Haines, Curator of Education and Outreach, will read tales of Alaska, old and new, including Gerald McDermott#,s award-winning book “Raven.” Admission is free. No registration is required. Crafters, vendors sought for bazaar
The Home, 46 Grant Ave., Auburn, is seeking vendors or crafters to rent a table at the Nov. 17 bazaar. Tables are $10. Donations of white elephant items will also be accepted.

Public Works to offer skating lessons
Registration forms for group learn-to -skate lessons are now available at the City Department of Public Works/Recreation office at the City of Auburn Public Works Garage, 358 Genesee St., Auburn, or at Casey Park. Forms are also available at www.ci.auburn.ny.us.
The first six-week program will begin at 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday Nov. 4. Each lesson will be 30 minutes with extra time for practice.
Class size will be limited. No double runner skates or other ice-skating aids will be allowed.
Registration forms with the $30 fee for residents or $35 for non-residents, must be received by Friday, Nov. 2.
Animal center seeks barns for cats
The Animal Resource Center has an urgent need for barns for healthy cats. All cats have been spayed or neutered and have been vaccinated against rabies.
Caretakers would provide food, water and shelter in exchange for mouse and rodent control.
Cats need homes as soon as possible.
Help in acclimating the cats to their new homes will be provided. For information call 255-1405.

AARP Driver safety
The AARP will sponsor a Driver Safety Program on Saturday, Oct., 20 at the town of Conquest Municipal Center, 1289 Fuller Road, Conquest. The course will be conducted 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with time out for lunch. Participants should bring a bag lunch.
Course completion results in a reduction of automobile insurance premiums for three years. $10 fee.
Register by calling the Conquest Town Clerk's Office at 776-4539.
