Weather brings along beautiful farms, statue

Hi everyone we are now into October and temperatures are still in the 80s. Who would of thought?
I was out putting up my political signs this weekend and I could not help but notice how well our farms are kept. I drove by the Vannorstrand Farm on Route 38 and two ladies were out doing landscaping near the road, and it looked awesome.

When I drive by the Good Farm on Fuller Road and the Waterman Farm on Springlake Road, I can't help but feel that with all the work that has to be done to keep these farms above water, and they still find time to make the farms look like something out of a farm magazine.

This is just a few. There are many others.

All I can say is keep up the good work; they are looking great. It makes the drive through Conquest a pleasure.

The other thing I would like to talk about is if you haven't driven by the municipal building lately, then you haven't noticed what is shaping up to be a huge monument being built in honor of Conquest Veterans.

After much discussion over the last four years, the Town Board gave the OK to build a monument that will take the place of the white monument that used to sit in front of the fire department. It was refurbished a few years ago by Dick Lees and was relocated in front of the Municipal Building.

It had to be taken down last year because it was finally giving way to the harsh New York weather.

Local resident Dale Powell took charge of the project and came up with a design that fit our landscape perfectly. He then went and secured many donations from area residents and businesses.

The list is much too long to thank everyone, but the Town Board will recognize everyone that has had a part in helping our monument become a reality.

Powell expects the monument to be complete within the next two weeks, and we will hold a ceremony to properly thank everyone involved. Believe me when I say we got a monument that looks like a million bucks for very few tax dollars.

The town board thanks Dale Powell and all involved. It still amazes me what a small town like Conquest can accomplish with so little tax revenue.

I will keep everyone posted when the ceremony will take place.

Charlie Knapp is supervisor for the town of Conquest.
