The Southern Springs football team scored 13 points in the fourth quarter to seal a 20-9 victory over Whitney Point on Saturday. It was the second victory of the season for Southern Springs.
Vinnie Salato had 113 total yards and two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Jason Wright completed 5-of-11 passes for 94 yards and a touchdown to Julius McClary. Ryan Cole finished with 32 rushing yards.
“We played a full four quarter ballgame. We played as a team and the kids played great. Vinnie Salato just went crazy on offense and defense.” Southern Springs head coach Jeff Ianiri said.
Southern Springs hosts undefeated Waverly next week.

Cato-Meridian got started early in the 49-20 defeat of Hannibal. The Blue Devils jumped up 21-0 in the second quarter before Hannibal finally scored. Preston Dennison had three rushing touchdowns and two two-point coversion passes to Dillon Caswell.
Captain Marc Walton finished with 15 carries for 156 yards and two touchdowns. Ethan Holt finished with 13 carries for 137 yards, and one touchdown.
“It was a very nice win over Hannibal. Hopefully it was good enough to get us into the playoffs,” Cato-Meridian head coach CJ Hannon said.
Cato-Meridian awaits the outcome of the Section III seedings from the meeting later today.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
East Syracuse-Minoa Invitational
Skaneateles placed fourth behind South Jefferson, Marcellus and Canastota. Sam Smolenski placed fifth (16:33).
“Sam had the best race of his career placing fifth in a talented field of All-State runners,”said Skaneateles coach Jack Reed.
Calvin Davis took 15th (17:15). Matt Parker was 54th (18:47) and Jeff Cregg came in 55th (18:48). Josh Youle was 75th (19:28).
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
East Syracuse-Minoa Invitational
Skaneateles finished third behind third ranked and fourth ranked Canastota.
Rachel Hosie finished in 10th (22:02) for the Lakers. Christina Homeyer came in 22nd (20:36). Kristin Roberts finished in 40th (21:21), Beatrice Walton took 43rd (21:32) and Alexis Mazzeo placed 44th (21:36).
Also running well for the Laker's were Becky Flannigan placing third (21:45), and Blair Gage coming in fourth (22:14) both for junior varsity.
FIELD HOCKEY
Weedsport 2, Watertown 1
The Warriors' Allison Beardsley finished with one goal and an assist. Katie Loperfido scored the other goal. Kaitlin Hammersley finished with three saves.
Weedsport (13-3, 8-2 league) travels to Moravia on Monday.
GIRLS SWIMMING
New Hartford 103, Skaneateles 77
The Lakers' Sarah Sawyer took first in the 200 freestyle (2:05.09) on Friday.
In the 100 breaststroke Kiley Becker placed first (1:15.53). Kate Menapace, Rachel De Witt, Elisabeth Holbein, and Britton Weber took first in the 400 relay (4:13.58).
