Just so you know, all firefighters are not men.
Auburn is in such need of a homeless shelter, one that people can access in the evening and on the weekends, and not something that takes two months to get signed up for. Congratulations to Holy Family and Chapel House, real Christianity at work.

The New York Mets have joined the New York Yankees, who haven't won a World Series this century, as the most overrated teams in the history of sports.

Wake up Auburn: Forget the $3 million for a warped, torn-apart movie theater. Food pantries are low, homeless population is going up, clothing for children is needed, taxes are climbing, trash homes are going.

Yes there is greed with the 15-minimum firefighter agreement, negotiated or not. $29,000 paid in overtime in one pay period?

Wow, doesn't bigotry always seem to have a familiar ring? Like, “I don't mind devoutly religious people as long as they keep isolated in their own little communities and they don't try to share any of their ideas with me.”

Why get a dog and force it to spend its life at the end of a chain. Don't get a dog unless you intend to make it a part of your family.

Can the city spare some extra paint? How about some crosswalks on Owasco Street to give the pedestrian's a chance to cross the street?

" I don't see where funding hospitals through PayPal has anything to do with anything. Personally, I know that there have been many churches which do good in the world, but I have also known many non-religious organizations which do good in the world too. I also have had the personal experience of seeking assistance from churches when I was injured and unemployed. (I've posted details about that before). One place sent a lady to clean my house once, which was very nice. But what I really, really needed was someone to help me fill in forms and make phone calls to all these bureaucratic agencies because just sitting up for more than 15 minutes at a time left me sick and exhausted. The pastor of a very local church, a very nice lady, took it to her congregation and asked them to help. They all refused -- it seems they had an issue with my long-since ex-husband (whom none of them knew personally anyway). For this reason, they would not lift a finger for me when I was needing help. The pastor lady was so disgusted with her own congregation's lack of Christian charity that she told me she was going to give them a sermon on it -- I hope she did. Actually, there was one couple in her church who knew me (and my ex!) personally and did help one time, but it didn't work out logistically -- though I do always remember their willingness with gratitude. But overall -- so much for the local Christians! But no matter that this was an experience which left me with disgust for the individuals in this congregation, I still know that there are good people out there who go to church, and good people who don't and I am not ready to condemn either group as a whole, nor to praise them all either. Our world is still made up of individuals, as are the various organizations we humans create -- some do more good than others, and some do much harm -- but no one has a corner of the market for either. By the way, Ruby -- don't count on any safety net for anything, because if you do, it won't be there. Take it from someone with experience. "

" i hope they have a safety net for those that don't (or unable) to pay a water bill. if they shut the water off doesn't it now make the house uninhabitable and unfit for occupancy??? then who is liable for a person or family now losing their home??? what is the real message the city is sending here and whose power trip is this fueling??? " Comment 2 above -"homeless shelter is needed"-since the atheist group is not building hospitals-yet people give there money online thru paypal to support "????"--maybe the non-believers can contact there groupies and have a shelter built..and give the God-lovers at Holy Family CHURCH and Chapel House a much deserved break!!! " WoW, now if "religious people kept isolated in their own little communities" YOU would call them cults and YOU would be the bigot! No one can hide from someone "sharing any of their ideas” that is a fact of life that which every person you speak with-you are sharing ideas. If it weren't for ideas-we wouldnt be living today in the good ole USA-Someone had an idea for everything we drive, live-in, eat, work at, or work on--all ideas were shared-that includes religion-FREEDOM to speak! I can certainly name well over 10 churches that aid the homeless, clothe the poor, prepare dinners and give out food without being a MEMBER of that church AND all thru volunteer work! "

" BTW, jerry--cm likes to post diversionary arguments to steer the conversation away from the crux of an argument. This is intellectually dishonest and a cheap shot. In fact she does this SO OFTEN that I generally ignore her like a pesky fly lately. It's just not worth the time it takes to type an argument to her, because she'll only steer it somewhere else if I make a valid point. It's like a child who keeps saying "Why?" after your answer each and every question! "

" The problem with those religious bigots is that it is THEIR religion which says there's something inherently wrong with you if you don't believe as they do. And no, it's not the same as Atheists like me, because I don't believe that all mankind is "unworthy" and destined to burn if YOU don't believe as I do! It is the self-righteousness and delusional habit of trying to convince me of something which relies upon "faith" (which, by definition CANNOT be proven)that makes me tell them to come back when they can prove to me that their God is worth following!
