Double standards abound over racism

Sunday, October 14, 2007 12:11 AM EDT

A black minister in Tennessee said he doesn't feel represented because his congressman is white. If a white minister said he didn't feel represented because his congressman was black, he would be labeled a racist, and rightly so.
There is a double standard in this country that favors African-Americans.

The pendulum has swung too far to the left. The white man in this country no longer has rights that need to be respected. In a democracy all are equal, none get special treatment.

" Karl--just trying to get under your skin--even though I think that there is alot of crap written by you and a few others, like global warming, the economy, religion, homeland security, and so on. I like the spirited debate. I now know I can use the word "crap" ALOT, so I am going to. Anyway, I just noticed you've been on the feral cat streak instead of the myth of Christ. "

" DD--CRAP!!!! (cool!)...anyhoo...DD, I believe very passionately in almost everything I write--except when I'm obviously joshin'. What gets me is why you think I'm trying to impress people with my comment about feral cats. I mean, DD, are you really so hyper-sensitive about EVERYTHING I say that you can't stomach a mere, matter-of-fact posting? I can't walk out of my door without seeing a feral cat. They wake me up at night, screaming and fighting and have kittens under my porch that get killed by toms or hit in the street. I have a "thing" against feral cats--for good reason. I'm not trying to "impress" anybody; I'm just trying to get people to wake up about doing their part to stop this well-documented problem! What's so bad about that?? BTW, I AM admittedly passionate about what I write about--it's just that what I write about usually tends to be controversial, so I'm not going to defend it half-a$$ed! (lets see if that gets by? LOL!!) "

" Karl--how much of the crap you type do you believe yourself? Do you type it to get under people's skin? If you are doing it for that reason alone, I applaud you because it is funny. If you really believe alot of the crap you type, then I am scared. You almost proclaim to be an expert on anything people write in about. Why are you not touring the SUNY system? My son could learn alot from a know it all like you on lets say, feral cats. I am not saying all that you type is crap, because you seem to be a smart guy with alot in insightful ideas on how the world turns, but quit trying to impress everyone with crap. Oh can I type in the word crap, because I used it alot. "

" Racist statement, yes it is. Double standard, yes it does exist. However, the tide is turning and all races will soon have to watch what they say. Or they will all be racist. The thing I find funny today is if I disagree on a subject with a black person I am a racist, instead of the other way around. We will only get by the race issue when we stop screaming it and allow people to explain themselves first. When someone yells racist today, for me it means look closer and what was said and in what contents it was used. Then I will make up my own mind if the statement was really racist or not. "

" Chris, PUHHHLEEEZE! C'mon, man; you couldn't think of anything better than that tired old ad-hominem?! Pretty weak. Jerry, if anything, you've just proved how SMALL your mind is, and the limits of your ability to think beyond your own self-imposed intellectual boundaries! Here's a news flash to ya, Jer..if you could PROVE to me that "God' existed, I would personally renounce Atheism on a public billboard--cuz that's the way the Atheist mind works. Prove it to me, and I will believe. But don't tell me that something exists just because it alleges it in a proven-contradictory book that, were it true, contains a depiction of a god in the OT that is UNWORTHY of worship. He's a homicidal, petty, jealous psychopath--in fact, closer to one of these Middle-East "mullahs" than anything, and I would sooner rule in hell than bow down in supplication and false piety to such a despicable figure and mass-murderer!!! BTW, I say that about the Bible, because that IS the "god" that you're talking about, right? I mean, imagine the Muslim "Allah" looking down on YOU and calling YOU an "infidel" Would YOU get down on your belly facing East five times a day Jerry? LOL!!!Geez Jerry--and you would accuse MOI of "hatred"?!?! Take a long look in the mirror, buddy! "

" It is not that I'm afraid of a monkey wrench Karl, on the contrary, it is you that is afraid of the monkey wrench. Because as an atheist, it would destroy everything you believe and try to convince others to believe, if God really existed. Imagine that? God actually looking down at your atheist butt and telling you to your face that you are a degenerate. Imagine being condemned to hell by the very God you denied ever existed. That is what you are afraid of Karl, you can point your finger at others like Sharpton does and cry RACIST. You can carry the banners of the rainbow and cry DIVERSITY, and yes, you can even deny God exists to justify your indulgence. But one day you will learn that opening up ones mind does mean it is right. Opening up ones mind does not mean morals are a thing of the past. Opening up ones mind does not mean God does not exist. Opening up ones mind should be used for the betterment of humanity, not some sick perversion of what is right from wrong. The path you are urging others to follow is wrong, and I will call you on it 8 days a week "

" I agree with ronnie, you are not represented by the congressmans color of skin. He/she does their duty based on moral integrity. To say that he doesn't feel represented by his white congressman is to say that a white congressman is not as up to the task as a black congressman would be. That is racism my friends, plain and simple. My teacher once said that only white people can be racist. I asked him what he meant. He told me that "those who have been oppressed cant be racist because of what they have gone through, therefore only white people can be racist." It was the most ignorant thing I had ever heard. Everyone needs to stop seperating the two races so much, I hate it when people seperate the races and call it "culture". "

" "Homosexual Lifestyle?" Are you still on about this jerry? Give me a break, jerry! I have work with and associated with MANY gay people in my occupation, and I could NEVER see most--99.99%--of them with the opposite sex! Let me ask this (it's an old saw but still pretty valid as hell)--at WHAT POINT did you DECIDE to love women, jerry? Was there a day when you actually thought about it and said "Hmmm...naw, I think I'll go for the ladies!"??? Now, put yourself in the shoes of a gay person. Do you REALLY think, for ONE minute, that they ever go through that conundrum?! Was there ever a SECOND when YOU E-V-E-R questioned your sexuality??? NO, I'm sure! So what makes you the expert on thinking that it IS NOT the same for gays? The more and more Science peels away the layers, the more it's being revealed that Homosexuality is a NORMAL STATE for some individuals who are BORN that way! You may not be able to even entertain the idea because it threatens your understanding of Scripture--to admit that Homosexuality exists naturally would throw a real monkey wrench into the "infallibility" thing huh? Or maybe you just need someone to hate?? Or--and you better think about this--maybe you are molded in the image of the Rev. Ted Haggerty or Larry Craig, Hmmm??? It seems like the ones who blow the loudest horns are always the ones who are hiding something in silence! Me? I'm comfortable and secure in my heterosexuality, and I'm not threatened by gays. It's a nice way to live, jerry--you should open your small mind and try it. "

" You are right Karl I am just the person to criticize your comments. You and your holier than thou attitude epitomizes the lop sided concept of diversity. You consider anyone and anything that does not conform to your degenerate life style to be racist. Kind of like having your cake and eating it too isn't it Karl? Go to Iraq or to Iran and preach your kind of diversity. See what kind of reception you get there,,lol As I do not subscribe to the kind of religious fanaticism of the Muslim religion, I do however agree that the homosexual life style is a perversion of what God had intended for mankind. And if that makes me a racist then so be it. "

" jlmorgansr, you're a fine one to criticize MY sarcasm and derision--I can recall some completely off-topic and desultory remarks YOU'VE made...anyhoo...I agree that there is a perceived "double standard", but I will also say that we up here in good ol' "Yankee north", where Secularism and Liberal attitudes are more prevalent in regards to Race relations, we have little grasp of what that Tennessee minister might've meant by not feeling "represented". It's possible--likely, even, that the elected Congressman has a reputation for being a "good ol' boy" who "looks out for his own"? And the minister may not have wanted to go as far as calling him a racist outright, so he attacked his office. I've come to believe very strongly that in certain circles, Racism is a fact of life--and it always will be. And correspondingly, there will always be scum like Sharpton and Jackson who will opportunistically exploit it. The Duke case had nothing to do with Race; I don't know why you'd bring it up. It may have been postulated that way by those same, aforementioned idiots Sh. + J., but that was about abuse-of-power, period. The woman who made the claims may well indeed have been racist, but more likely, (having been around strippers in my career enough) was greedy, and in need of attention, and used the Race aspect to try to capitalize on her claim and use it as the basis for a lawsuit. Strippers are a VERY dysfunctional lot; I avoid them like the plague, but unfortunately they are the wilted scenery on the sides of the road that I travel. "

jlmorgansr wrote on Oct 14, 2007 9:46 AM:

" Typical response from you Karl. Instead of addressing the subject of his letter you attack him as being racist. I am interested in hearing if you agree or disagree with his claim of a double standard. I would also like to know why you disagree. *note I never said anything about you agreeing with him I would also like to know if you feel the individuals who are of color and make statements like those made above, if they are racists? Or is the race card only allowed for the black man? Finally do you think the DA in the Duke case was a racist, or were the Duke players racist, or was Sharpton and Jackson racist? Or was the woman who made the false claim to begin with a racist? "
