Best way to my heart is through my belly
Each Sunday, The Citizen features a pet which is available for adoption.

This week, we spotlight Nala Greyheart.

Q. Who is your best friend?

A. I know I need to diet, but I have to admit that the lady with the food is my favorite around here.

Q. Do you get along with other animals?

A. Yes. I have lived with dogs and liked them and I've even had a hamster or two as friends.

Q. Who do you prefer, adults or children?

A. There were lots of both where I lived before - so I'm good with either. However, they do need to respect my personal space - that's important with any pet.

Q. How often do you like to be groomed?

A. I will tolerate the occasional nail clipping and ear cleaning - so lets say - once a month would be ideal.

Q. What has been your worst experience?

A. Oh, I guess losing my home was really bad. But I know there is a new one out there for me. I'm just waiting for it to find me.

Q. When you go to your new home, what is the first thing you want to do?

A. I'd like to check out the food situation - but that will give me away - so I'll pretend and do some laps around the kitchen ... then look for the food.

Q. If you could visit any place in the world, where would that that be?

A. I have an interesting name - Nala. In Sesotho, which is a southern African language, that means “prosperity.” So I would like to visit Africa sometime.

Q. Do you have any advice for The Citizen's readers?

A. I want to put in a good word for the dogs. October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month. I know there are many wonderful canines in here that need homes. So come down and meet them.

Nala Greyheart

Age: 4-5 years old

Breed: Domestic shorthair

Comments from the SPCA: Nala came to the shelter a few months ago as an owner-surrender. She is a large and beautiful girl. We've told her she needs to diet - she says she's working on it.

Nala loves attention. When visitors come, she shies away at first but eventually gives in and meows for scratches behind her ears. She comes from a household that was active and noisy so she will be tolerant of lots going on around her. She has been an indoor-only kitty and definitely wants to remain indoors only. Nala uses scratching posts and loves scratching cardboard boxes. She gets along well with dogs and has lived with hamsters. Nala uses her litter box faithfully and never had accidents in her former home.

She is negative for FIV/Leukemia, up to date on shots, has been vaccinated against feline kennel cough and has been treated for worms, fleas and ear mites. She has also been spayed.
