The Seneca Community Players will perform its final show of the 35th season, “When the Cat's Away,” beginning tonight. Performances will continue through the weekend.
The show is based on a popular British TV sitcom that was also remade in the United States as “Three's Company” and “The Ropers.”
The show centers on Mildred Roper (Melissa Baxter), a long-suffering and frustrated wife who plans a second honeymoon to Paris with her blundering husband, George (Patrick Fegley).
When Mildred's frigid sister, Ethel (Susan Sinicropi), appears after leaving her philandering husband, Humphrey (Steve Mitchell), who is having an affair with his young secretary, Jennifer (Mariah Ernhout), the two sisters decide to take the trip together and leave the men behind.
Meanwhile, Jennifer won't go out with Humphrey because her roommate, Shirley (Liz Olmstead), is suicidal. So Humphrey blackmails George into double-dating, just as a baggage handlers' strike causes the two sisters' flight to be cancelled.
Then things start getting complicated.
The show is directed by John King, a longtime actor who is new to the director's chair. The show is produced locally by Sincropi.
Tickets can be purchased at WomanMade Products, 91 Fall St., Seneca Falls, and Area Records & Music, 74 Seneca St., Geneva.
The Players' mission is to foster, arouse and help broaden the interest, availability and appreciation of the theater arts in Seneca and surrounding counties.
