The third-seeded Auburn girl tennis team fell to sixth-seed Whitesboro 4-3 in the first round of the Section III playoffs but three Maroons qualified for individual sectionals.

Claire Minnoe (6-2, 6-0) qualified for individual sectional play at first singles with a record of 9-6. Second singles' Delaney Scollan (6-0, 6-1) qualified with a record of 14-1 and third singles' Hailey Roth (6-1, 6-3) qualified with a record of 12-3.

Auburn (8-6) is finished for the season but individual sectionals will take place Tuesday at Eastside Racket Club.

GIRLS SOCCER

Southern Cayuga 1, Newfield 0

The Chiefs Ashley Bergenstock had her first career shutout. Beth Rocker scored with 28 minutes left in the game from a pass across the goal by Felicia Allen.

The Chiefs were led defensively by Nicole Hoey, Miriam Lason-Koester and midfielder Andrea Bradley.

Marathon 2, Union Springs 1

The Wolves Nicole Randazzo had one goal, and Michaela Hares had the assist.

Deven Gary had four saves for the Wolves.

The Maroons (25-20, 20-25, 24-26, 25-21, 25-11) were led by Emily Felter with eight kills, one block, and one ace.

Katie Brown had six kills, one block, and three aces. Megan Cahill had seven assists, and one kill. Erica Querns had four assists, and three kills.
