Port Byron native receives scholarship
Jennifer Loveless, of Port Byron, daughter of Sandra and Richard Loveless, majoring in biology-chemistry, earned the Presidential scholarship at Elmira College at the recent Academic Convocation.

Presidential scholarships are awarded based on rank in secondary school class, overall academic achievement and test scores.

The scholarship is valued at $72,000 over four years.

AHS to present play ‘Voices of Men'

Ben Atherton-Zeman will perform “Voices of Men,” a one-man play working to end men's violence against women for students and staff members at Auburn High School Tuesday, Oct. 16. The multi-media presentation is intended to point out warning signs and teach everyone that relationship violence is never permissible.

Performances will be held at 8:05 and 9:21 a.m. in the school's auditorium. Parents and guardians are invited to attend this free show.

Red Cross to offer babysitter's training

The Cayuga County Red Cross will offer babysitter's training from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, Oct. 19, at 11 State St., Auburn. Students will learn how to provide safe and responsible care for children, develop leadership and professional skills, learn how to earn money and gain knowledge of first aid.

Training is available to students age 11 to 15 years old.

The cost of $40 per student includes lunch, training manual and American Red Cross certification.

Keuka College to host open house

Keuka College will host a Fall Open House for high school seniors, juniors, transfers and parents from Saturday, Oct. 20, at the school in Keuka Park.

Registration will be held from 8 to 9 a.m. and will be followed by a welcome from Executive Vice President Carolanne Marquis and Dean of the Center for Experiential Learning Anne Marie Guthrie.

Next a panel discussion, featuring current Keuka students and alumni will focus on Keuka's commitment to experiential education, particularly the Field Period program.

The students will discuss how Field Period has allowed them to take what they learned in the classroom and apply it to the real world, while alumni will assess the impact it has had on their careers.

There will be information sessions on academic programs at 10:10 and 11 a.m. Prospective students will have the opportunity to speak with representatives from campus organizations and meet with coaches and students from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Campus tours will be conducted from 10:10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
