Health Dept. to hold flu clinics
The Cayuga County Health Department will host a series of flu clinics this fall.
Adults ages 18 and older may receive flu shots and pneumonia vaccinations in Auburn, Aurelius, Cato and Moravia.
The schedule includes clinics from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 18 and Nov. 13 at the Board of Cooperative Educational Services, 1879 W. Genesee St. Road, Auburn; from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 2 and 9 to 11 a.m. Nov. 20 at First United Methodist Church, 99 South St., Auburn; from 9 to 11 a.m. Nov. 16 at St. Patrick's Church, Mechanic Street, Cato; and 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 16 at the VFW, Grove Street, Moravia. The schedule is posted online at www.cayugacounty.us/hhs/doh or available by phone at 253-1157.
No appointment is required and the cost is covered by Medicare Part B.
Those not covered by Medicare can pay $30 per flu shot or $45 per pneumococcal vaccination.
Ag. Dept. creates Internet census
The Internet will play a key role in collecting and providing agricultural information this year.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture recently created www.agcensus.usda.gov as a portal to national agriculture information.
The National Agricultural Statistic Service will also allow farmers and ranchers to file their census forms online for the first time. Census forms will also be mailed Dec. 28 and are due by Feb. 4, 2008.
The census, conducted every five years, will gather data on land use and ownership, operator characteristics, production practices, income and expenditures and other topics.
The Web site will feature frequently asked questions and census data dating back to 1840.
Toastmasters to hold demonstration
District 65 of the Toastmasters International will hold a demonstration toastmasters meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at St. Luke's Church Lounge, 25 Seminary Ave., Auburn.
This meeting is for anyone interested in finding out what the Toastmasters has to offer.
No one in attendance is required to join the Toastmasters.
Reservations for the event may be made by contacting coordinator Michael Ricci no later than Monday, Oct. 15, at 252-4561.
Energy workshop to be held for teachers
The Energy Smart Students Program workshop for high school science and technology teachers was rescheduled for 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6.
New York State Energy Research and Development Authority is offering the free workshop at the BOCES facility on West Genesee Street Road, which was recently constructed to be energy efficient.
The workshop will teach educators lessons on the hydrogen economy. Participants will receive free curriculum, lesson plans, electrolysis equipment, and a fuel-cell car kit.
A workshop aimed at middle school teachers is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry, 1 Forestry Drive in Syracuse.
