On Wednesday in Marcellus, the Westhill girls cross country team accomplished something no other team has been able to do in 15 years.
The Warriors defeated Skaneateles in a dual meet.
The Laker girls ran hard for the first mile, but fell behind after that and couldn't recover, losing to the Warriors 20-25, but defeated Marcellus 24-36. Uncharacteristically, just one Lakers' runner finished in the top five - Rachel Hosie in second place (21:16). Kristin Roberts was the next finisher in ninth place (22:45).
“This was a very definitive win, with Westhill placing so many runners between our one and two runners,” Lakers coach Jack Reed said. “It was a good ride though.”
Christina Homeyer finished 10th (22:58), Danielle Mazzeo was 11th (23:10), Carly Strods took 12th (23:36) and Beatrice Walton placed 13th (23:52).
The Lakers will compete next in the East Syracuse-Minoa Invitational on Saturday.
