Bar owners should show neighbors some respect

This letter is directed at those who have expressed an opinion concerning my presentation at the City Council meeting last Thursday. I have had numerous conversations with homeowners in our neighborhood. We are concerned with the vacant buildings, waist high grass, broken windows, glass and debris on the sidewalks, litter, gangs of teenagers hanging out on the corners fighting and swearing, standing in the middle of the road defying traffic to hit them. We are tired of loud music and obnoxious bar patrons.

When I purchased my home, bars did not have outside bands. This just started this summer. Imagine screaming guitars and screaming drunken patrons, imagine closing your doors and windows in the middle of the summer just to hear your television set. Imagine going to bed to be awakened by individuals fighting, swearing, urinating, and vomiting in the street or right in your front yard. Imagine having your children or grandchildren awakened by this noise.

I have no problem with bar owners making a living, however, they also have a responsibility to the neighborhood. They have a responsibility to be good neighbors. If they cannot meet this obligation then their permits should be rescinded.
