A Union Springs man has been arrested in connection with two burglaries and a vehicle theft, both in Union Springs.
During early Thursday, a new 2008 Chevrolet Impala was stolen from Gillespie Chevrolet. Two days earlier, food items were stolen from the Be Happy Cafe and Saxon Electronic, some of which belonged to a local Boy Scout troop. All three businesses are located on the same short stretch of Cayuga Street.
Craig A. Mason, 22, of 19 Spring St., has been charged with three felony counts of third-degree burglary, as well as a felony count of third-degree grand larceny and two petit larceny misdemeanors in connection to all three incidents, according to the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff's detectives located the Impala submerged in the Seneca River near Route 5 in Aurelius. The vehicle has been removed from the river, with the help of divers from the New York State Police and Department of Environmental Conservation Police.
Mason is currently being held at the Cayuga County Jail on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.
This is the second arrest connected to the food burglaries. Milton C. Black, 31, of 129 Cayuga St., Union Springs, was charged last week on one felony count of third-degree burglary and one count of petit larceny, a misdemeanor, according to the sheriff's office.
Detectives are still looking for Corey Burnett, 20, whose last known address is the same as Black's. A warrant has been issued for his arrest in connection to the investigation.
Anyone with information regarding the case or the whereabouts of Burnett is asked to call 253-3545.
