Creekside to hold wine tasting event
Creekside Books & Coffee will host a Finger Lakes wine tasting event from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at the bookstore, 35 Fennell St., Skaneateles. Visitors can taste locally crafted wines presented by representatives from Cayuga Ridge Estate, Buttonwood Grove Winery, Cobblestone Farm Winery & Vineyard and Sheldrake Point Vineyard, as well as listen to a short presentation and have books signed by Michael Turback, author of “Greetings from the Finger Lakes.”

Food and a wide selection of wines from the Finger Lakes region accompany this free event, and musical artist Donna Colton will perform.

Nature center hosts apple cider pressing

Visitors are invited to help in creating apple cider the old-fashioned way, using a people powered fruit press from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Sterling Nature Center, 15730 Jensvold Road, Sterling. Attendees will help wash, grind, press, pasteurize and best of all taste fresh apple cider.

While going through this process, the center will discuss the history of apples, apple products, the apple growing industry and the many different varieties of apples.

New this year, visitors may taste test more than a dozen different varieties of apples grown by local orchards and vote for their favorite.

Squadron 317 to offer clambake

The Sons of the American Legion Squadron 317 will host a clambake from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the post, 4572 Jordan Road, Skaneateles Falls. The clambake will feature clams, draft beer, hot and cold food, live music, door prizes and 50/50 drawings. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased at the post or through post members.

The event is for people older than 21 and is open to the public.

Church to serve pork chop dinner

SS. Peter and John Church will serve a pork chop dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the church, 169 Genesee St., Auburn. The dinner will feature marinated pork chops, baked potatoes, green beans, dinner rolls and a selection of homemade dishes, including macaroni, pasta and potato salads, fruit salads and baked beans. Homemade desserts will follow.

The dinner is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Take-outs are also available. For more information, call 252-5721.

Historical society to host spaghetti meal

The Lock 52 Historical Society of Port Byron will host a spaghetti supper from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Port Byron Federated Church, 35 Tex Pultz Parkway, Port Byron. Proceeds will go toward repairs for the historical house.

The supper is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors, $4 for children ages 6 through 12 and free for children younger than 5. Take-outs are available. The supper will also feature a raffle for a crocheted afghan.

Ham dinner to benefit elderly

A Community Harvest Ham Dinner will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Faith Assembly of God, 1286 Poplar Ridge Road, Aurora.

Donations for the dinner will be received to purchase a lift chair for an elderly couple.

The 31st annual CROP Hunger Walks to raise money to help alleviate hunger will begin in Cayuga County at various locations Sunday, Oct. 14.

Chicken dinners to help memorial fund

The Half Acre Union Church will host a chicken barbecue dinner at noon Sunday, Oct. 14, at the Aurelius East First House on Route 326. The dinner consists of a half chicken, salad, potato, dessert and a beverage. Attendees may eat in or take out. The dinner benefits the John Howland Memorial Scholarship Fund.

St. Hyacinth's to host barbecue

St. Hyacinth's Parish Center will host a chicken barbecue and Polish food sale from noon until supplies are sold out Sunday, Oct. 14, at the center, 61 Pulaski St., Auburn.

The food is available for take-out only. The menu includes chicken, kapusta, pierogi, baked beans, bread and butter and a dessert.

The meal is $8 for adults and $7 for children.

Running at the same time is a Polish food sale, which will offer a large container of kapusta for $3 and pigs in a blanket for $1.75 each. Proceeds benefit St. Hyacinth's CYO.

The center's Parish Picnic Committee is also taking orders for pigs in a blanket at those prices. Phone orders can be made by Sunday, Nov. 11 and can be picked up from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20. To order or for more information, call 253-3803, 252-7714 or

Bistro to host Pumpkin Hill Fest

Pumpkin Hill Bistro will host its first Pumpkin Hill Fest from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at the restaurant, 2051 Route 90, Aurora.

The fair will feature hayrides, music, clowns, pumpkin decorating, artists, food and more. Cost is $2 per car.
