This year's Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Car Series XXXVI is under way at the New York State Fairgrounds in Geddes, but the racing action continues through Sunday.
Today's Futures Race is a new addition to the series. Any driver who has not qualified for a main event during Super DIRT Week is eligible to participate in this race, which starts with practice at 11:45 a.m. and continues with feature events at 4:15 p.m.
Central New York Racing fans will have to decide between two main attractions on Friday night.
At 7 p.m., the Mr. DIRT 358-Modified and Sportsman Series will take place at Rolling Wheels Raceway in Elbridge. At 7:30 p.m. the Mr. DIRTcar Street Stock Series and Mod Lite SDW Championship will be held at the Cayuga County Fair Speedway in Weedsport.
The week will end with the Rite Aid 200 Modified Championship at 1:45 p.m. Sunday.
A few changes have been made to the State Fair's rules. Campfires will not be allowed on grounds, they must be kept to an above-ground container. Also, no pets of any kind will be permitted on the grounds.
Rumors had suggested that this year's race would be the last at the Fairgrounds. But DIRTcar Northeast General Manager Jack Deery is confident the series will return to Geddes next year.
