Come on Auburn School Board, where's all of the school calendars this year. I haven't seen any in my mailbox yet this year.
To the people that volunteer for Habitat For Humanity, great job to you all. The last house in Weedsport - it really looks great.

What's up with not getting the second new fire truck here in Auburn? I think we should get another one, after all we pay taxes for these men to be able to have the equipment that is needed here, and we do need a safe city.

I just received in the paper the new changes at the city landfill on the price change: If they want to join offices in Auburn, why don't the city manager and Time Warner join companies, because all they seem to be doing is raising prices, and we are getting less for our money.

Voters of Cato and Meridian, please use your privilege to vote, and help make a drastic change in the Cato Town Board on Election Day. What gives five people the right to cause such harm to so many?

Let's put a Bible and post The Ten Commandments on every corner and see what happens.

" The Dalai Lama is here at Ithaca College today. The feelings inspired aren't quite what was hoped, I fear -- not when I came in to work (the long way around because of a detour for road construction) I had to park way up top and walk down (with my bad leg with 14 pieces of metal in it - not enough for a handicap permit, but it makes downhill/downstairs painful and difficult), then I had to hop some gates and fences to get to the gym (all blocked off at 6 AM though the speech is next door and not until 2 PM) and the long way around that building as well to get to my workout. Man, I promise I am not inclined to assassinate ANYONE -- can I just go to the gym?!?? I got half my workout in just trying to get there. At least on the way home it's uphill -- I can do that with no problem even though it means 5 flights of stairs, just don't make me go DOWN. The feelings inspired were not ones of love and peace -- LOL! (Meant kiddingly -- I have no issue with the Dalai Lama, I just hate being made to park way up in the top lot instead of all on the same level as my work where I usually park. When I become inclined to complain, one need only remind me how glad I should be not to work at Cornell where parking is much worse). "

" I have studied the factory farms in South Carolina that are 100 times larger than this one and they could not stop them from setting up shop. The citizens are trying to take action now that it is too late. Waste has polluted the water shed and is causing sickness. You don't even want to talk about the air quality. It is hard to prevent start up so you have to fight the battle early and prepare for not being able to stop them from opening. One defense is local laws that the Feds can't fight. And monitoring conditions and immediately taking them to court. "

" You don't depend on the government to monitor the situation. You do it at the grass roots level. I live on the border of Massachusetts with New Hampshire. There is a nuclear plant about two miles from where I live in NH. The air and water are monitored 24 hours a day by citizens helped by grants from Massachusetts and court ordered funds from the utility company. Many of the volunteers that do the monitoring are former protestors that were arrested at demonstrations in the 70s. This plant has never had a serious accident and has had one of the best performances of all nuclear plants. If you can't keep them from opening, then make them do their duty. That was the point I was trying to make. "

" Say, Brew -- respectfully -- I don't know if you checked back for later comments on what may have been a throw-away post for you on the proposed hog CAFO in Montezuma, but I thought it worth repeating here. I *wish* you were right, but I am sorry to say you aren't, not on this one. ####$$$$----$$$$#### You wrote: "brew1234 wrote on Oct 7, 2007 5:16 PM: " You can't deny him the right to use of his property but warn him that he will be monitored for environmental violations and will be shut down fast. Make him form a plan for removal of waste and hold him to it and if there are no laws on the book to use against him then pass them now. Don't let him despoil the land and watershed while you are stuck in court. "####$$$$----$$$$#### And my reply, after spending the whole summer corresponding with the folks at Cornell who set the guidelines for CAFO manure disposal (and so forth) and much other research besides: "Farmer's Gal wrote on Oct 8, 2007 8:27 AM: " He won't be "monitored" -- get a grip. Brew, seriously, have you ever tried to find out just what the regulations are for factory farming? I'd guess not -- because their NMP plans are considered "sensitive" documents and are not public. The DEC WILL NOT COME OUT TO CHECK -- not even if you call them. (I've tried, friends of mine have tried, even with documentation of clear abuse going back 10 years). This guy WILL despoil the watershed and there won't be a thing anyone can do to stop him. Regulations are a sham and even those aren't enforced. Until we remove these absurd claims that corporations are "persons" with Constitutional rights which trump our rights as natural human persons, corporations will go right on destroying our world. " "

" Isn’t great the road around town are being repaired, some inconvenience but eventually good for all. Keep up the good work. One comment though, are construction workers immune from the traffic laws? I was coming home for lunch on Tuesday around 12:30 pm at the corner of Franklin St. and Marvine and there was a construction vehicle at a red light, when the way was clear he went right through the red light. I waited for the light to change, and as he was getting out of his vehicle I commented to him that he just went through a red light. His comment” Yeah I know I did”, as if he did nothing wrong. So I ask you are they immune to the traffic laws? Again please keep up the good work just pay attention to the traffic laws while doing so. "

" To the folks that complain about city taxes - I see you are racking your leaves into the street. That is utterly ridiculous as you should be responsible for your own waste and bag it and place ON your lawn for the refuse folks to remove properly! "

" Guess I am confused about the 15 man minimum for the firefighters. Now is that per shift, per firehouse or just city wide at any given hour? And if a person called in or was on disability, who would be the "police" be so to speak to make sure there were always 15 people? I take it that calling workers in is whats causing the surge in OT pay. Cant they be called in when there is actually a fire/emergency like when Highland burnt? "
