If the firemen and their union truly loved Auburn, they would do away with the 15-man minimum. Overtime with hardly any fires: They are blinded by greed.
I see where “Hilarious” Clinton is promising to do all things if elected, just like she promised to bring thousands of jobs to upstate New York. Instead, we've lost thousands of jobs - nice going Hilarious!

Our country has become a victim of motherless homes. Children need their mother at home when they are home, so they know what their children are doing, and so they can teach them what they should be doing as they grow.

How about taking those old garage sale signs down on Genesee Street? What a sight!

After seeing Mike Bass in action during a court case I wouldn't trust him as D.A. or with my life. Cherry Love-Duncan on the other hand, I feel she truly understands since she has been there before.

It would be a laugh riot if Brad Molloy wrote about the Geico caveman, or the evolution of the “home stereo system” over the years. Hint, hint.

To the individuals on Holley Street with the barking dog, one comment: SPCA.

After all the years of getting anything they wanted at taxpayers' expense, city department heads are leaving because we finally have a manager running the city like a business and they don't like it.

" I agree Dan W.--when I was young it was home by dark and on the porch 'till mom said BED! in the teens-a group of us-hung out late on friday and saturday nights during the summer-mostly at the park nearby/or casey park--but we caused no troubles-we didnt destroy property or break in vehicles. I think back then more people knew who you were and about where you lived-and more reported to parents! I had worked at AMES in '85, when we had a lock-down, a man tried to take a little girl-he cut her long hair and dressed her like a boy-BUT he couldnt get out the locked doors-so he left her in the changing room. This could have been a horrific tragedy! No one was ever caught-so I knew he lurked in Auburn somewhere-I guarded my kids! AGAIN it wouldn't have happened had the parent been watching this child. Today this world is worst-you may know where the preditor lives but do you know where he shops? He could be in the grocery line right next to you playing peek-a-boo with your child! "

" As for the City Manager, I feel he is doing a great job!! The Mayor and City Council are doing well too. I would like to see how some of you side line professionals can do. Try to run a City with a shrinking population and shrinking businesses that cann't afford to stay inside the city because of high taxes. And yes, now we have somebody that will run the City like a business not a GOOD OLD BOYS CLUB like it was. I worked for the city I seen it happened. The word NO should be used more by the City Manager. The Department heads now got to come up with a business plan for each department. Guess what this is real world. Times have changed, we need to watch out for all of our tax dollars not just part of them. Keep up the good work Mike!! "

" Re:Firemen. Where would we be without them? They're like life insurance: if you need it and don't have it, you'll never need it again. "

" How about hiring some more firefighters? I think that the salary would be less then what the others are making in OT. Then we can get them the new trucks. And when you get the new trucks how about laying off the engine brake as the new city manager says they are just to make noise and there is a ordinace against them. "

" Cm you hit the nail right on the head! My youngest is 22, my oldest 29. I had rules in the house that was followed. One was you don't hang out at the mall. Or not home before an age based curfew. Didn't need a goverment mandated curfew for my kids. Be a "Parent" folks. In the 60's and 70's my parents knew where I was at. I used to same parenting skills I learned with my kids. None of them was hanging on the streets. Because I cared what they was doing and where they were at. "

" You must be kidding....how dare you rip on the firemen. I hope they never have to go to a fire. When they do, their lives are at risk, but cheap #$%%%^&#%$ like you are more concerned with saving Two Dollars a week in tax money than keeping these brave guys safe NO MATTER WHAT THE COST>>> "

" Children need a responsible adult to look after them at all times. I agree that some homes choose material items that they go in debt for and could care less about what their kids are up. I agree too many kids are out at night-when they should be indoors in bed and shame on those parents for ignoring their childs needs! Local towns shouldn't have to set curfews, Parents should be setting rules along with punishments! "

" There is no greed in a 15 minimum firefighter agreement, this is called a negoticated issue that warranted this minimum. The fact that overtime exist within the department is job related issues not minimum issues. To eliminate 'the fat' for taxpayers try to train 'community service' sentence personnel to work within the department. In other words, instead of three years probation, you work three years on your off time within the department to assist these firefighters. This is called volunteers the court system way. "

" Barking dog? I feel there are far serious things to worry about on Holley Street than that. How about the group of .yeah. in the Eckerd parking lot at 1 o'clock in the morning, walking the streets intimidating drivers? "

Farmer's Gal wrote on Oct 8, 2007 1:11 PM:

" My ex-husband stayed home with our kids -- there's no reason that a stay-at-home parent has to be female. And I have seen plenty of kids who'd have better role models in their child care giver than their parents. Each person should make the child care choice which works for his/her family, and not have some morally-holier-than-thou come dictating that Mothers Must Stay Home with the Children. A mother unsuited for staying home because she is stuck there grows to resent the children she loves and that's no better for children than being left home alone! Keep your parenting pronouncements to yourself. If staying home worked best for you and your kids -- that's wonderful and I am earnestly glad for you, whether you are male or female. If you made some other arrangements, so long as you made them for the good of your whole family, don't let others make you feel guilty because you didn't stay home. Your duty is to do the best you can for your family, not to fit a cookie-cutter mold of what some other people THINK is best for your family. Only you know the answer to that one. "
