Tom Hussey collection on display
The Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce is currently exhibiting paintings by Auburn artist Tom Hussey.
Hussey's collection of work, with a focus on the Northeastern landscape, may be seen from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, in the Chamber lobby, 36 South St., Auburn. The exhibit continues through Oct. 31.
Inspired by his maternal grandfather, George T. Miller, Hussey began painting in oils at 12 and has remained hooked on painting.
He is currently teaching adult painting at the Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center and has recently launched a new line of hand painted furniture available exclusively at Floors and Walls, 152 State St., Auburn.
He will join regional artists in November and December at the annual Art Mart at Syracuse City Hall Commons.
Hussey is know locally for his illustrations of downtown Auburn commissioned by the Auburn Business Improvement District. The original paintings can be seen at the Cayuga Museum's “Streets Where We Live” exhibit through Oct. 21.

Volvo to honor hometown heroes
Volvo will honor America's top hometown heroes with a charitable donation twice the amount previously awarded.
Three top heroes will receive $100,000 for the charities of their choice.
Nominations for the sixth annual Volvo for Life Awards are accepted at www.volvoforlifeawards.com through Oct. 15.
Three winning heroes - one in each category of Safety, Quality of Life and Environment - will receive $100,000 for their charities; two runners up in each category will receive a $25,000 charitable contributions. One extraordinary winner will go on to receive the title “America's Greatest Hometown Hero,” and with it, a new Volvo car every three years for life.
New York pianist to play in fall concert
The Adams Foundation Piano Series will bring New York pianist Joseph Kalichstein for the first fall concert to be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 17 William St., Auburn. Kalichstein will perform selections by Brahms and Bach.
Tickets are $25 for the series or $15 per performance; students $5 per performance.

The Auburn Go Club is open to all ages and beginners and will meet from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, in the Children's Room at Seymour Library, 176-178 Genesee St., Auburn.
Choose to learn regular Go, or a simpler version called Capture Go.
