Congratulations to Diane Jurczak-Prue, who was recently promoted to the position of general manager at the Fingerlakes Mall. She has been employed by Jones Lang LaSalle, the management company of Fingerlakes Mall, since 2004 as the on-site property accountant.
Jurczak-Prue is a lifelong resident of Auburn. She attended Cayuga Community College and received a bachelor's degree from Le Moyne College in Syracuse. Currently she resides in Auburn with her husband, Tom, and son, Peter Dylan.
“I am excited about the opportunity to work with the local community and the tenants at Fingerlakes Mall,” she said. “I look forward to the upcoming holiday season, and the events we have planned here.
“There have been some positive staff changes at the mall, including the hiring of a full-time marketing manager and leasing agent. These additions will provide more opportunity to promote the Fingerlakes Mall to potential new tenants,” she continued. “I am glad to be a part of the future growth and progress with the mall and the surrounding area.”
Congratulations also go out to J.C. Penney department store, which celebrated its 105th anniversary last month. Store founder James Cash Penney opened his first Golden Rule Store in 1902 in Kemmerer, Wyo., and it was immediately successful.
Penney's Golden Rule of retailing was “to serve the public, as nearly as we can, to complete satisfaction.” The company motto was “Honor, Confidence, Service, Cooperation.” Penney's success continued to grow, and it is amazing to think that the small store he started in 1902 has grown into, and remains to this day, a major retailing force in America.
In addition to serving the retailing public, J.C. Penney believes in doing good works in the community. The J.C. Penney Afterschool Fund is “a charitable organization committed to providing children in need with access to life-enriching afterschool programs that foster their academic, physical and social development.”
According to the department store's Web site, #“The J.C. Penney Afterschool Fund also works to raise awareness of the benefits of afterschool programming, and is committed to ensuring that every child has access to the world of opportunities that awaits them after school.”
One of the more fun afterschool programs is the NFL Take a Player to School contest. Students can enter on the site or in J.C. Penney stores. Winners get to bring a real, live NFL player to their school for the day. Imagine how popular those kids are!
October means Halloween, and the annual Verizon Trick-or-Treat Parade will be held at the Fingerlakes Mall at noon Saturday, Oct. 27. Parents must register their children at the mall customer service center, located in the J.C. Penney wing of the mall now through Oct. 22nd; the cost is $2 per child. All children must be registered before Oct. 22 in order to trick-or-treat at the mall. Call 255-1188 or visit the mall customer service center for more information.
In addition to the trick-or-treating in a safe, temperature-controlled environment, there are some other fun activities planned for that day. Immediately following the parade, a costume contest will be held in the mall common area in front of Bass Pro Shops. Prizes will be awarded to the best costumes in various categories.
Children can meet Spiderman and SpongeBob Squarepants from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday Oct. 27, courtesy of Reva Rollerdrome. Reva Rollerdrome will give a free skate pass with every $5 photo purchased with Spidey and SpongeBob.
Hunting season is upon us, and Bass Pro Shops has some upcoming safety classes for hunters. On Oct. 11 and 12, a Bow Safety Class will be held from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. A Gun Safety Class will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 14, at Bass Pro Shops, and from noon until completed Oct. 21, at the Elbridge Rod & Gun Club.
On Oct. 18 and 19, a Gun Safety Class will take place from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., at Bass Pro Shops, and from 8 a.m. until done Oct. 20, at the Salmon Creek Sportman's Club.
Class size is limited to 35 students; interested people must sign up at Bass Pro Shops customer service center or call 258-2700.
