JASPER - The teenage driver of a car that veered off a country road at night - killing himself, two fellow high school students and a recent graduate - had a blood-alcohol level well above the legal limit, state police said Friday.
David Cady, 17, had an estimated blood-alcohol content of 0.13 - the state's legal limit is 0.08 - when his car plunged into a creek outside Canisteo in rural southwestern New York last Saturday, killing himself, Tiara O'Dell, 17, Jered Fry, 15, and Joe Lubberts, 21.
The car, hidden from view with the bodies inside, wasn't found until Monday afternoon after a weekend search.
Funeral services were being held Friday and Saturday for the four victims.
The group was returning home around 3 a.m. from a drinking party in a backwoods hangout.
They all attended Jasper-Troupsburg High School.
